Show BATTING AVERAGES OF THE MILFORD BASE BALL TEAM In going over the records of the Milford ball club for the last five games of which we have an official record we find "Dolly" Carter about the most valuable man as he has hit at the very high average of .652 or 15 hits in 23 games at bat and has supplied at least four or five of the most sensational fielding stunts robbing rob-bing Boswell of Beaver of three good hits when he was playing in right field. In the game August 3rd making mak-ing a sensational catch of a fowl over the Beaver players bench, thereby getting his pitcher out of a hole The next best hitter is "Butch" Tanner who ha3 also been hitting a fast and timely clip with an average of .478 besides stealing 3 bases and doing a good job of catching until the last game when he was shifted to short to fill a big hole which he did in a very efficient manner. The rest of the team have been hitting the ball good but have not been stretching their hits being satisfied satis-fied to hang close to the base and wait for hits to bring them in, what they need is a lot of smart base running run-ning and inside baseball. In the last five games Milford pitchers have allowed al-lowed 65 hits to C3 by opposing pitchers and Mjlford has won but two of these games which shows we are getting as good pitching and hitting hit-ting as other teams but not the base running and scoring which wins ball games. I Milford ball team this year has had most of the defensive weakness in the infield having trouble getting an infield that could work together I but with the last game this difficulty ; seems to be about over and we do not i look for any more changing except in 1 cafe of substitutes going in for a lit-. lit-. tie experience. The infielding of j Blackwell at 1st base, Jensen 2nd, ! Easton 3rd and Tanner at short with I Hickman, Garzan and Roy White as understudies is about the best combination com-bination we have had and these four ! regulars are all good hitters al-, al-, though Roy White has hit better than any of them except Tanner his fiehlin? has been very eratic and he ( looks better as a pinch hitter than anything. Garzan and Hickman need I a little more experience especially in i hitting. In the out-field Barny is the best bet against any team being a good hitter and even with the years creeping on can still show the boys some real smart and fast base running run-ning and if left in his old station at right field is a sure fielder. Shadow White who has been shifted to out field should be a fixture in one field for his hitting although not getting as many hits as some his hits have all been for extra bases. In the other oth-er out-field we can have Alma Hollis hitting .310, Tom Schow hitting .214 but a better fielder and baserunner or Spence Schow, who is a first class fielder but not hitting this year as he should nor running bases with his old form. The pitching staff has had a hard voyagle lately pitching good games only to see the other team win because be-cause of a little better base running. Peterson won his first game against Caliente then lost one to Minersville, Edwards lost one to Beaver and Rochek Ro-chek lost to Beaver but won one from "Minersville Horton pitched are inning in-ning against Beaver but run into a team that was going good with a good lead and he had to be relieved. Edwards relieved him and finished in good shape but this game had already al-ready been lost while Rochek was pitching. If this combination can be kept together to-gether and working where they are we expect to realize our ambition and beat Beaver in the next game as they are the only team consistently beating beat-ing Milford.
