Show HAD ALL SHE COULD STAND Despite Possible Proposal, "Young Old Maid" Was Unable to Put Up With Bore. Iole is a new and charming correspondent corre-spondent who describes herself as "a rather young old maid in whom the eager desire for matrimony is almost overbalanced by an unfortunate sense of the ridiculousness of all masculine beings." Her letter relating some recent re-cent experiences with male bores and zanies is too long to reproduce. We print this brief excerpt: "He talked of socialism from 8 :30 to 9:30, of the war from then till 10:30, of Bernard Shaw and how he Is different dif-ferent from Chesterton till 11:30 antl then of psychic therapeutics. " 'I am, you know,' he interjected, 'connected with the Emmanuel movement' move-ment' " 'You surprise me,' I murmured. " 'Why should you be surprised that I am interested in so absorbing a subject?' sub-ject?' he demanded. And I'm afraid I glanced at the clock as I answered an-swered : " 'I didn't imagine you could be connected con-nected with any sort of a-er-move-ment !' "But isn't it too bad? I think he would have proposed if I'd let him talk for another hour or so !" |
