S ti 1 r A 11 r Mr Mr and Mrs Brigham Lovell whose wedding anniversary was celebrated at open house Mr and Mrs Brigham Lovell Mr Mi and Mrs Brigham Lovell of Oak City celebrated their wedding wedding wedding wed wed- ding anniversary at an open house i I on Thursday Oct Ocl 9 at the home I of their daughter Mrs Retta Peterson Pet Pet- Pet Pet-j erson In Oak City The three sixty-three years of their married life has been spent in Oak City and their many friends throughout the county called called cal cal- cal I I led the afternoon with expressions expressions ex- ex of friendship and felicitations felicitations felici felici- on the happy occasion The following sketch of their lives was prepared by Mrs Clara Cara E E. Talbot Mr and Mrs Brigham Lovell are both members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter Saints and are always on hand to pay their donations and do what Is asked of them Mr Lovell is a high priest and held the office of president president president dent of the Young Mens Men's Mutual for about 15 years ears also assistant superintendent to three different superintendents of Sunday School totalling 29 years In such service His occupation has been fruit fruit- growing truck gardening farming and stock raising Mr Lovell was the first white child born In Deseret his parents being some of the first settlers there enduring the hardships and privations Incident to settling a anew anew anew new country Among Amon some of the hardships was the dam going out In the old Sevier river where they had to put nut the dam in order to get pet the theater water ater out In canals to Ir Irrigate Irrigate irrigate Ir- Ir their crops This was a trying tryIng try- try In Ing ordeal as ns when they would get it in and all aU seemed to be going well It would go o out again and the crops would suffer for water drying and burning UP UD before the dam could be replaced They also had trouble with Indians Indians Indians In In- In- In who made their permanent camping grounds near Black Rock just below Deseret They used to come and be beg for flour lour and other food stuff At one time there was quite a number came to his is fathers father's fathers father's fathers father's fath fath- ers er's house seeming to be but somewhat curious looking inthe inthe inthe in- in the around the house As they could not talk English it took tooka a little time and an Interpreter to explain the reason for the call caU Then it came out that these Indians Indians Indians In In- had seen quite a number of white men but had never seen seena a white woman and Mrs Lovell II Brigham Lovells Lovell's fathers father's wife who was sitting in the house was the object of their curiosity The settlers gave them flour lour and food and thus won their friendship I Mr Lovell moved from Deseret to Oak City in the year 1868 when he was a mere boy and made his II home and has resided there there- since He was born Dec 19 1861 In Deseret Deseret Des Des- I eret Millard County Utah Mrs Harriet Talbot Lovell was born Oct 16 1865 at Layton Davis County Utah She moved to Leamington Leamington Leam Learn ington when 10 years old and to Oak City when 18 years of age and she has resided there 64 years She has always been an active worker in church affairs Mr and Mrs Lovell were married married married mar mar- ried In Salt Lake City on Oct 9 1884 in the old Endowment House Daniel H.
