Show Plans Laid For I Stewart School I Speech Contest I Aims to Broaden Ability For Expression ion And Culture To broaden the cultural am and and informational background of the participants and to develop their i ability for self expression an annual Public Speaking contest for attending the Stewart school will be held at the close o of each school year according to its sponsor Melvin Strong directing teacher of social science at the University of Utah All students attending the Stewart school are eligible to take part in the contest providing that 1 The speeches are original and and not more than ten minutes in length After the speeches have been given in the final contest each speaker will be asked to talk extemporaneously for one minute on on a subject taken taken- takes from from his pre prepared prepared prepared pre pre- pared talk but upon which he has been given but five minutes to meditate 2 At least twelve boys and girls prepare speeches and take part in the preliminaries Subjects may be taken from the entire field of social science science pre pre prehistoric historic historic or current The preliminaries are planned to be semi-final semi and final contest within with with- in the month The winner of the contest will be awarded a medal at the annual commencement commencement commencement commence commence- ment exercises of the Stewart school |
