Mrs. Emma Spendlove is vacat-ioning this week in the Southern Parks with her daughter Ellis and her family. Saturday and Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Marion Lee were guests at the home of his grandmother, Mrs. Mary Lee. They visited with friends through west Millard while here. With' them were their two young daugher and six - week old son. Recent guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Mecham were Mr. and Mrs. Boone Calgrove and their son. Mrs. Julia Bliss was hostess to the Rook Club at her home last Friday night. Bertha Love was the winner of high score, with Manon Robison winning second high, and Alice Bliss taking the guest prize, with, Helen Shurtliff being given the consolation one. Guests at the home of Mr. and 3fillard County Picnic Aug'. 11 The annual reunion for former Millard county residents in Salt Lake City and vicinity will be held on Monday, August 14, at Fair-mont Park, in Salt Lake City. Each family is to bring a picnic lunch and after lunch a program will be given by Millard people. The time set for the picnic is 6 p. m., with ball games and sports before for the pleasure of those who come earlier. The committee for this year's reunion is Mr. and Mrs. Clark All-re- Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Thompson and Mr and Mrs. Eldon Partridge. An invitation is extended to all who live or have lived in Millard county to attend the reunion and picnic. She is a member of the Los Angeles chorus that sang at the dedication of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers building. Mrs. Ruth Bowers has spent most of her time with her mother, Mrs. Ashdown, in Tooele, who suf-fered a stroke last week. They are at the home of Mrs. Bowers' sister, Mrs. Leonard Elder. Mrs. Ashdown was slowly improving last report. Mr. and Mrs. Burton Ivie were in town last Tuesday. They are trying to dispose of the remainder of their property here. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Greathouse and family spent the 24th in Salt Lake City. From there Mrs. Great-hous- e left for South Dakota to visit her daughter, Colleen. Wednesday evening the young people of the town had a sand hill party at the Fool Creek sinks. Twenty-si- x young folks enjoyed wieners, buns, punch and water-melon. They rode to the party on a hayrack. Mrs. Irvin Whatcott is visiting in Kanosh with her daughter, Iva, and family, Mrs. Clea Dutson and Bryant took her over. She retuned to Lynndyl and stayed with the family for a week before return- - Nielson. They went to Michigan and drove a new car back. Joe Sorenson of Yuba City, Cal., was a visitor at the Roy Nielson home Friday. Miss Flora May of Sutherland spent Monday with Miss Clorean Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Roper are rejoicing over the arrival of a baby boy born at the Delta hos-pital. Mother, father and baby are all doing nicely. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Cockran of Kansas were her for several days with the Irving Nielson family. Mrs. Cockran and Mrs. Nielson are sisters. The Cockran family enjoy-ed a trip to Logan temple during their stay in Utah. They also visit-ed their folks in Provo. ing to Provo. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Freer spent the weekend in Salt Lake. They attended the Democratic conven-tion and visited friends. Mary Johnson, Connie, Clorean and Mrs. Anna McMahon were Ne-p- hi shoppers Tuesday. Friday Mrs. Mary Johnson and mother, Hettie Johnson, spent the afternoon with Mrs. Mary Finlin-son and family. The occasion be-ing Aunt Mary's 75th' birthday. The bishopric honored the ward teachers and partners at a can-yon party last Friday night. A large crowd attended. A ball game between the married and singles was fun and others enjoyed pitch-ing horse shoes. After the game ice cream, cookies and watermelon were enjoyed. Mr. and Mrs. Edward F. Huddle-sto- n are moving to Salt Lake. They were down Saturday with a truck for furniture. Mr. and Mrs. Doug McMahon were down also. Mrs. Lucille Johnson went to Salt Lake City Saturday, returning Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Terry were seen about town last week. They still have their home here and get a little homesick to come back once in a while. They visited Mr. and Mrs. William Coleman. Mrs. Adelia Coleman was a pa-tient at the Delta hospital Tues-day and Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Mac Thompson of Milford spent Sunday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Les Thomp-son. Mrs. Mac Thompson is a niece of Mrs. Ray Mills. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Mills and daughter left Sunday afternoon for a two weeks vacation in Texas. Mrs. Thelma Clark is here taking care of the business while they are away. Mrs. Mary Smith and Annette are in Salt Lake City this week. Mr. and Mrs. Merit Nielson and family of Ogden were here Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Nielson and they also visited relatives in Leamington. , Mr. and Mrs. Norman Oborn and Gene gave the program in churchc Sunday evening. Talks were given by Mr. and Mrs. Oborn and Gene played two piano solos. The pro-gram was enjoyed by a large crowd. Mr. and Mrs. Roland Ashby and sons and Mrs. Jean Ashby stopped on their way to San Pedro for a brief visit with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mrs. Ruth Steele, who underwent an operation for gall stones Tu day a week ago, is now maki a good recovery at the Provo pital. Miss Gene Harris who has taught school the past win-ter in Hawaii reported her exper-iences with the school people and church work. It was very interest-ing. She also sang a solo in the Hawaiian language. Fireside chat was held immedi-ately after the sacrament meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Lovell. Elder Reece Finlinson told interesting missionary experiences. A large crowd attended. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Finlinson had the following children visit a few days: Amy Faust from Salt Lake; Angie Lyman and son, Axel and wife from Rexburg; Lenox and fam ily from Provo. Melba Day and family from Fillmore; Martha Dut-son and family from Delta. Friday July 28th was Mrs. Finlinson's bir-thday. Mr. Finlinson has been ill but is much improved in health and able to be out again. Mrs. Phil Robison and little dau-ghter, are visiting at Boise, Ida., with her mother for a couple of weeks. Elder Francis Anderson returned home early Monday morning. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Anderson and has labored the past two years in the California Mission. The Sunday school class taught by Reece Finlinson had a weinie roast in the canyon last Friday evening . About 26 people were present. Mr. and Mrs. Cloyd Talbot and family attended a family reunion at Bryce Canyon this week. Daryl Talbot took his Sunday School class for a party to the canyon Monday evening. Weinies and marshamallows were roasted. 16 people were present. Lyman and Marilyn Melville are spending a week in Oak City. Their home is in Salt Lake. A shower was held Tuesday eve-ning at the lawn of Mrs. Silvia Harris, in honor of Miss Janice Olson who will be married this month. 4 Deseret LUCILLE SAMPSON I; Mrs. Eva Hamilton, her son, Bud, "ji and daughter, Mrs. Marie Hender- - son, from Compton, California, and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Henderson from j Nebraska, are guests at the home j of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Croft. Mrs. Martell Mace from Las. Ve-- j gas, Nev., came up Monday to get I: her daughter, Carol, who has been visiting the past two weeks with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Mace. Sunday evening in Sacrament meetnig a returned missionary, Lars Bishop and a convert to the church, Mrs. Hansen, gave wonder-ful talks. Mr. Bishop told of his mission to Denmark and Mrs. Han-sen is from Denmark. Miss lone Hilton furnished the musical num ; bers. Their talks were enjoyed by everyone and also the singing by Miss Hilton. A new counselor to the bishop-- . ric was also put in replacing Ralph Crafts. Dee Black was sustained first counselor and Cecil Warner j was sustained second counselor to fill the vacancy left by Mr. Black. Pres. Harold Morris officiated at the change. Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Cahoon are in Salt Lake City where Mr. Ca-hoon is undergoing an operation. Mr. and Mrs. LaMar Dewsnup spent a few days in Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Chynoweth and family from Orem, spent the weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Dewsnup. Harmon Dewsnup, Anna Lou, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hardy and Mrs. Eva Conk spent a few days in Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln Cropper and son, Vincent, are spending a few days in Salt Lake City. Mrs. Charlotte Black has been very ill for the past ten days. We all wish her a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Crafts returned Sunday after spending the past month in Colorado. Anna Lou Dewsnup and Caroline Christensen entertained their Sun-- 1 day school class (the six year olds) at a wiennie roast at the old fort Monday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Webb spent Sunday at Fish Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Leland Larsen and daughter, and Glen Larsen from Spanish Fork were weekend guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. ' Eliason. Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Cropper went to the Cropper reunion in Provo. Mrs. Beatrice Erickson was op- - erated on last Tuesday at the Fill more hospital. We all wish her a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dewsnup, Mrs. Arprilla Scow and sons, Dar- - rell and Kent, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ekins, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Dew-snup and Cloyd Theobald spent Sunday at Scipio, attending the Bradfield reunion. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Melville of Salt Lake City, visited in Delta Monday on their way to Cedar City to the firemen's convention. They called on Mr. Melville's counsin, Mrs. Waiora Wallace, and on Mrs. Melville's uncl.e Emory John. Mr. and Mrs. Piatt Reeve and three children from North Holly-wood, visited in Delta this week with Mrs. Reeve's sister, Mrs. Reed Crafts. They left Tuesday for Salt Lake City where they will visit their mother, Mrs. Mary Reeve. fFARMSaHOMEfe The 4-- Jolly Sewers met at the home of Ronilla Hunsaker and sewed on their children's clothing. Their teacher was Mrs. Wallace Jeffery. They had light refresh-ments. The next meeting will be held at the home of Marjorie Riding. Loabelle Black, reporter. The SOS 4-- club met at the home of Peggy Ann Wright. We had a health discussion on vita-mins. Lunch was served to Eloise Bassett, Dorene Moody, Muriel Skidmore, Collen Kimber and Peg-gy Ann Wright, teachers, Darlene McCullough and Marilyn Callister and visitor Joan Moody from Cal-ifornia. The Six Stitchettes held a spe-cial meeting Monday, July 10, at the home of their leader, Mrs. Thera Davis. This meeting was to plan for the annual 4--H outing in the canyon. Juvene Church and Merna Turner were selected as chaperons and accompanied them to the canyon. They decided to go Tuesday, the 11th, and choose a camp and clean it. They regis- tered Wed. at noon and Joyce Mc- Cullough was chosen as their camp elector. They made copper plaques and put on a skit for the program. Their camp was given honor-able mention or second place for the clean camp inspection. Nila Davis and Katherine Callister won the log sawing contest for the girls under 13 years. Joyce and Katherine were also camp inspec- tors. The Six Stitchettes held a 4-- meeting Thursday, July 20, at the home of their leader, Thera Davis. Those present were Juanita Man-ki- Nila Davis, Katherine Callist-er, and Joyce McCullough, Loa Rose Hansen and Shirley Callister were unable to attend.The meeting was opened and the first group sewed on their dresses and the second group their laundry bags and shoulder protectors. The meet-ing was closed and refreshments were served. |
