Show H DISTANCE, LENDS ENCHANTMENT H Mankind seems to 'inherit the desire H for the far away thing, although that Hf near at hand is frequently much better flf Oft times distance lends enchantment, H while that near by is the more beautiful. H I , h Not until such have gotten their eyes open H? " is the tme condition' realized. I Richmond recently held a very successful success-ful and commendable "Black and White Day." The exhibits on that occasion in quality were on a par with the besVexhib-ited besVexhib-ited at the fairs in the large cities of the country. In fact cows, heifers and bulls, H i the very best that money can buy, were H oh exhibition, and owned by our own H I Cache county citizens. Animals the equal H I' if not the peers of those that Utahns H I have recently and in the future will trq- H j vel through many states to buy. were H t shown at Richmond on "Block and White H I Day." It has been suggested that the own- H ers of this fine stock should Set' it be H4 known throughout the state that they have young stock for sale that cannot be excelled in any of the states, and thereby create a market for these animals, and a name for Richmond and Cache county, but again comes up that inherent desire to buy from the far, away place. Some time ago one of Logan's best citizens citi-zens went into the chicken business. He purchasd some birds of the very highest strains of blood, and succeeded in raising a very fine flock. Prom time to time his friends and neighbors and fellow citizens would call up over the phone and inquire as to the price of eggs. Two dollars a throw seemed a high price for the home product, but three and four dollars for the far away article did not seem half bad and as a insult the money went to the far away chicken raiser. Finally the local citizen put a little advertisement in a farm paper in the middle west with the resultt that orders for eggs and chickens from that locality came rushing in and he has since enjoyed a profitable business. And now local citizens are buying choice hens and roosters hatched from local eggs that are sold at a fancy price and parcel posted many miles away. And that's the way it goes. , Perhaps it would be well for the owners of these blooded calves to advertise their sale in other states and they might duplicate dupli-cate the experience of our local chicken farmer. Distance lends enchantment. It's a bugaboo; it's like the empty churn, nothing in it, but it gets there just the same. t R ta |
