Show H v OUR 60LLC13SAL ANNUAL INTER I jl. EST BILL HI The United States government owes in HI round numbers twenty four billions of Hi dollars. It pays out in interest charges Hl'i ' on this debt about a billion dollars a year. Hi The United States government has got m to begin to get itself rapidly out of debt Mm ?r the people of the United States are go- L ing to keep on hunting for new govern- Hg; went business managers. Hjp To pay off it debt or to meet other Hi? i charges against the government can't Blt imake money like a steel corporation or a BE ' railroad or a business house. Either it BBBj must pay off the debt by raising more H heavily, or it must take the revenues it fl has and instead of spending them in oth- H er ways use them to clear the debt. If HP the United States government does not fl . thus get itself out of debt by the practice fl of rigid, economies instead of with hcav- B i , ier levies of taxes the American public B M . will be forked from the f rying pan into B I the 'file. Hfr When the government outs its debt B and makes a double saving for itself and B I it makes a double saving for the public. H The government saves doubly, because H B every time it slices sCmething off the H A principal it lessens the an Jount of itnerets HB it has to pay on the remaining principal, H and again because as the government's Hw debt grows less the government's credit Hh grows stronger. As the government's Hw ciedit grows stronger it can borrow at H l a lower interest rale for refunding and I other purposes. The people save doubly because less money is taken out of them in direct taxes paid into the treasury and again because less money is taken out of them indirect ly by high living costs which result from high taxes. The government spendings, the government govern-ment debt and the government taxes can and must be slashed all together. In state and county we find the sane conditions prevail. The people in both these capacities have recently decided to change their hired men, and it is now up to these new hired men to begin ways and means for reform that will find their way to the people's purse. Governcr-el-ect Mabey is on his way to Idaho to confer con-fer with Governor Davis on this important import-ant matter. Success Governor Mabey, you are starting out right. The Cache county commissioners elect should next fall in line. There is indeed some work I to be done. - h-i-.- n n -.&? THE BOY SCOUTS The explanation and appeal which the Boy Scouts are now making to the people of this country in an intelligent and well conceived effort to enlist a livelier support sup-port than they have had in the past is of private and public interest. The Bov Scouts form an association in which all the desirable tendencies and traito of youth are utilized and developed to tf o fullest possible extent not only fox the employment and benefit of the boys but also for the benefit of the community. Moral and financial support given to the Boy Scouts is an investment well worth making. a b k A. Smith, New York's popular, though defeated governor, is now described ,as the leader of the party. The first thing he has to do is to find the party. The conscience of America responded to the call made upon it. n a n That referendum was great enough and solemn enough to satisfy even the man who asked for it. o After reading the figures from Greater Great-er New York, Taggart, Brennan and Nugent Nu-gent will suspect that Charley's love for Jimmy was not deep -and lasting. fc m Republican want ads bring results. |
