Show WILSON'S WORDS PROVE KNOX ARGUMENT In a recent statement Senator Knox says: "Article X of the covenant seems now to be the bone of controversy, and thetqucstton Is: "Are we, under Its terms, obligated obligat-ed to go to war, If war U necessary to repel external aggression against members of the league. The person who told mo that under article X wo wcro under an absolutely compelling moral obligation to go to wnr to repel external aggression against a member of the league of nations, was President Wilson as the following follow-ing dialogue at tho Whlto House discloses: " 'Senator Knox Mr. President, allow me to ask this question. Suppose Sup-pose that It Is peifectly obvious and accepted that there Is an external aggression against some power, and suppose It Is perfectly obvious and accepted that It cannot be repelled except by force of arms; would we be under any legal obligation to participate?' par-ticipate?' " 'The president No sir. But we would be under an absolutely compelling com-pelling moral obligation.'
