Agricultural Collego from January II tO 31, It appears from reports reaching reach-ing the College from Utah and other western states. Thi.- Softool will be the biggest ever held at Hie inutitu-tlon, inutitu-tlon, according to Prof. Ray H. West, director of ilm division of agricultural agricultur-al engineering. "We have organised our work thoroughly," says Prof West, "and in spite of the fact that we are already accommodating over 194 men in our shops we will be ah le to accommodate as many more for a short, intensive course. The new machinery we have Just Installed. Including In-cluding a large ox -acetylene welding weld-ing plant, will make the most expert ex-pert Instruction possible." l'rof. I.eOrnade Humphreys will j be in direct charge of the tractor school. He will be assisted by Mr. Powell and Mr. Winchell. Twenty types of tractors will he used in Instruction. In-struction. Many of these are being sent to the U. A. C. by the companies compan-ies manufacturing them especially for this tractor school. In some cases the tractors will be accompanied by factory experts who will aid In Instruction. In-struction. It will thus be possible for those attending the school to get acquainted with the various types of gas engines and with the many kinds of farm tractors. "We will make our work vital through actual demonstration of machines," ma-chines," said Prof. Humphreys, when outlining plans for the school. "Our course will be made to appeal to tractor trac-tor owners, prospective ownera, salesmen sales-men and service men. The work will begin at nine o'clock each morning morn-ing and continue until five o'clock in the afternoon. The schedule is so arranged that two hours each day will be devoted to lectures and discussion, dis-cussion, and the rest of the time will be spent In the study of fundamental funda-mental operations. We will teach the adjusting of bearings, the repair of magnetos . babbiting, soldering, tempering of tools, sharpening ana setting of plow shares, and the care and repair of the'" gas engine. This arrangement will afford an opportunity opportun-ity for a man to obtain a thorough working knowledge of tractors. "The farm tractor Is a highly Important Im-portant factor In farming today. We can not serve the State of Utah better bet-ter than by training efficient tractor operators." The U. A. C. tractor school will Immediately preceed th Farmers' Roundup and Housekeepers' Conference, Confer-ence, which will be held at the college col-lege February 2 to 7. Several other very Important conventions and schools will be held at the college during the winter months. From January 19 to 31. a school for poultry poul-try owners will be held. Full time can be given to a study of the care of poultry or half time can be devoted devot-ed to this and half time to the tractor trac-tor school. From January 26 to February Feb-ruary 7, a convention of Scoutmast ers will be held. From January 10 to February 7, a school for the crop pest inspectors will be convened, while a short course for watermusters will be given from February 0 to 21 |
