Attorney General Hlbbard stated bis reasons for asking for dismissal of tho cases to be: "That several jears have elapsed since tho commencement com-mencement of this prosecution, and upon diligent and thorough Investigation, Investiga-tion, It has appeared that many of the witnesses on behalf of tho people peo-ple have departed from tho Jurisdiction Jurisdic-tion of this court; that somo of them are dcajl: that many of thoso available availa-ble aro unable after a lapso of time to recall with convincing or sufficient suffici-ent clearness of memory the events to which they, might heretofore have testified, nnd their testimony would be so meagre, indoflnlto, unsatisfactory unsatisfac-tory and circumstantial In Its nature that In my opinion a conviction could not bo obtained. "That this prosecution aroio out of disturbed t Industrial conditions, which happily now havo passed. "Tho revival of this case from its long roposo and Its attempted prosecution, prose-cution, with others In a like situation, situa-tion, would not only burden this county with an enormous and fruitless fruit-less expense, unnecessarily Increasing Increas-ing tho burden of taxation and threatening threat-ening the solvency of tho county, but would tend needlessly to stir again to life bitter and vlndlctlvo feelings engendered by on unfortunate period la tho Industrial history of tho community.",,, com-munity.",,, ,j |
