Show Canning of Peas Discussed By Club Committee Recommends that E- M.'rliiH'nts bo Carried on Thru' out tho Valley. A good representation of business men and farmers wero present at tho Commercial club meeting Wednesday Wednes-day evening, hold principally for tho purpose of considering tho establishment establish-ment of a pen canning plant In Cacho county. Tho discussion brought out much vnluablo information relatlvo to tho pea canning Industry nnd proved that It would provo a vnlu- o able crop for tho farmer, and a good Investment, If managed properly. After n thorough Investigation by tho special committee, It recommended recom-mended that experiments In the growing of peas be carried out this year, and if the quality and yield can bo produced and the market conditions con-ditions are favorable, In nil probability probab-ility a pea cannery will bo built next year. Dr. F. S. Harris, director Of tho Experiment Station, of tho Agricultural Agricul-tural College has proferred tho services ser-vices of the station In carrying on the experimental work In tho growing grow-ing of peas for canning and Beed this year. Various farmers In different dif-ferent parts of tho county will bo asked to set aside certnln small tracts of land for planting peas. Experts Ex-perts will bo engaged In connection wjth Dr. F. S. Harris to watch tho growth of tho peas very carefully and everything will bo done to give a fair test. It was suggested that Idaho furnishes fur-nishes half of all the seed peas In tho United States. As our climatic conditions nro similar and perhaps better than Idaho, tho experiments will also be made with the idea of getting good seed peas. Hero is nn excellent opportunity for bringing one more valuable crop for Cacho County and tho results of tho experiments ex-periments will bo watched with much Interest. Tho following applicants wero unanimously elected as members of tho club, Prof. A. N. Sorenson, L. Boyd Hatch, Wm. Doutre, Abraham Jorgenson, Chas. Jenkins, Harold Ccderlund, and J. W. Gardner. |
