Show IOLAM BY A, C. STUDENTS PLEASES1LL The threo performances of Iolan-tho Iolan-tho by tho A. C. students have shown that they havo an opera well worth seeing and that they know how to sing and act it well. Tho enthusiasm over tho opening scenes with tho fairies was only lukewarm, luke-warm, but tho moment tho chorus of lords came on the stage, Logan realized real-ized that It was listening to tho best male chorus It had over heard, and gave It hearty applause after all Its numbers. With tho exception of Mls3 Oreenhalgh and Mr. Farnsworth all tho parts were In tho hands of students, but were, handled and sung with an ability that was not far from professionalism. Especially was this tho case with Mr. Blackner, whose superb voice was ono of tho main features of tho evening. Tho fun-making fun-making and singing of Mr. Parkinson Parkin-son were greatly enjoyed, and Mr. Farnsworth made a young lover delightful de-lightful In voice and person. Miss Oladys Smith, in tho leading part of Phyllis, showed much charm and talent tal-ent and was n great favorite with the audience. Other leading parts wero taken by Miss Klrkham, Mrs. Holm-stead Holm-stead and Mr. Arno Klrkham, all of whom played with much spirit and sang well. There was an excellent dancing number in tho first part of tho Bec-ond Bec-ond act. Scenery, dancing, singing and acting, all wero mo3t creditable, but tho outstanding featuro of the performances was tho male chorus wh'lch, as a college glee club, has been getting applause all over tho state. Iolantho Is by far tho best opera that the Agricultural college has over dono, best from tho point of view of execution, and musically the equal to any that havo preceded It. Tho college has been growing fast In tho. past few years, and It is gratifying grati-fying to note Its progress In music as well as in tho tnoro noted bread winning win-ning arts, |
