Show BAN ON RUBBER KITS ENGLISH SURGEONS i Cannot Gat United States Made Gloves for Use in Surgical Operations. I A serious shortage of rubber oper ntlng gloves has developed In England, nnd unless the United States Is nllovved to send grenter supplies to that coun-l try there may be bad results. i The situation arlse,s from tho fact1 that tho Board of Trade has prohibited their Importation. The restriction must be removed or diminished to keep the supply equal to the demand. Since tho restriction was Imposed the army and. ;invy has been supplied vviin American, made goods under special license, but! even the nnvnl and military surgeons haven't enough, while the local hospitals hos-pitals nre being forced to dungerous expedients. The British manufacturers could not possibly supply the operating gloves required re-quired for the nrmy alone, nnd ns these demnnds supercede the requirements require-ments of the civilian surgeons tho case of the latter Is untenable. The British Medlcnl ABsoclntlon has made nn appeal ap-peal to the Bonrd of Trade urging lit cerise permitting tho civil hospitals to get supplies from the United States. The hospital work throughout Eng-( land has grown to such enormous proportions pro-portions that tho organization of the Ilojnl Army Medical Corps Is being re-, built to lit the new conditions. Anew, brunch Is to be established to deal with questions directly affecting territorial nnd temporary medical ofllcerS. The new branch will collect Information on the many problems rnlsed by tho Incorporation In-corporation of so many civilian practitioners practi-tioners In tho nrmy medical service. Theso civilian olllcers today constitute eleven-twelfths of the nrmy service and Is one of tho best evidences that England must now face the fact that In every direction the drain upon her man power has been severe. The United States has nlready contributed con-tributed greatly to the medical work on this side, nnd the outlook today Is that even heavier contributions will bo required In the future. i |
