Nov. 1C Whllo tho fifty-seventh annual convention ot tho American Federation of Labor La-bor was marking time awaiting the reports of committees, President Samuel Gompers addressed a joint meeting of tho Executive Club and the Greater Iluffalo Club. Ho told tho business men that tho long standing stand-ing problems affecting capital and labor are virtually Insolvablo. "All that can bo done," ho said, "Is to solve problems confronting us from day to day, so that, day by day wo may be better prepared to reach a solution, if solution bo possible, of ' what has been a riddle for ages. I "Wo can allay all disputes during this great war In which wo are now engaged by you gentlemen bearing In mind that all the virtues are not on your sido nnd all tho vices on ours. "Neither side can claim nil ot tho patriotism, but it is possible to obtain ob-tain a better understanding so that tho standards of American life shall not bo lowered and to the end that our boys at the front may be supplied sup-plied with all that is needful not only for fighting but for their cam fort when they nre not fighting. , "To me this war has quite another significance than the mere winning of battles. It Is to bring a rejuvenation rejuven-ation of the democratic peoples ot J tho nations of all tho world."
