Show 8EARCHING RECORDS OF MEN NOMINATED FOR FEDERAL RESERVE BOARD Washington, June 22. Searching the records ot the five men President Wilson hhs nominated for the federal feder-al reserve board began Saturday In the senate banking commlttee,"but no formal action was taken. Friends of the administration indicated indi-cated they would press for early confirmation con-firmation of the nominees and several senators seemed satisfied with President Presi-dent Wilson's explanation ot how Thomas D. Jones of Chicago came to own one share ot stock in tho International Inter-national Harvester company. The president wrote to Senator Owen that Mr. Jones owned the stock merely mere-ly to qualify as a director and that he entered the Harvester board to correct conditions the government Is now fighting through the department ot Justice. Paul M. Warburg of New York also al-so was discussed at today's meeting. Mr. Jones will have an opportunity opportun-ity to appear before the committee. Several members want to hear from Mr. Jones himself Just what his relations re-lations have been with the Harvester Harvest-er company. President Wilson expects a fight on ,the confirmation of nearly all of he men he nominated, but It was made clear In circles close to the president today that he thinks the board the best it was possible to get and that he stands behind It. |
