I Isaac Smith, one of the heat known I citizens In northern Utah and south- I rn Idaho, died at his residen'co In I this city yesterday morning at 0:20 I a. va. following an Illness of a few I -weeks, of rheumatism and ureamlc I Tolsonlng. While Mr. Smith has boon I falling In health for several months, I It has never been known even by his I family associates that his conditio.! I was so critical. Funeral services. I liave been arranged for Wednesday at I 2 p. m. In the Logan tabernacle. I Isaac Smith was born in Brlgham H -City, December 31, 1857. Ho wns II ' the son of Samuel Smith and Sarah U Jane Ingroham, natives of England. II The early part of his life wag spent tPyk srew to be an Industrious; hsrdwork- BBB ing citizen. He held many positions wF of responsibility In his youthful days. II In the year 1877 he married Harriet I -Camilla Ensign, daughter of M. I.. Ensign and Mary Dunn. At the April conference he was called on mission to Great Britain, and departed m the fifth of May, the same year. After a most successful mission ho returned home In April, 1880. In the spring of 1881, ho removed to -this city to clerk In the wholesale department de-partment of the Z. C. M. I. Juno 5, 1884 when tho Logan First ward was divided Into three wards, Isaac Smith was appointed bishop of the Seventh ward, with Nils P. Lludelof and Ephralm Mlkelsen as his couti eelors. During his labors with tlie Z. C. M. I. Mr. Smith was Invoice clerk, had charge of the grocery, hardware and crockery departments and later the clothing departmeur. He was on the road as general .'ales man for about five years, after which he ran n brunch t.'ore for Ihii institution institu-tion on Main street. August 3, 1800 he was suatlr.eJ as seo ml coiirsel-or coiirsel-or to Orson Smith, president of the Cache stake, iind was set apart by Apostlo Franklin D. Richards. In February, 1891 he was given tho management of the Logan branch of the Z. C. M. I. which position he held, until the Institution closed out Its business in 1897. Isaac Smith served as counselor to .President Joseph Jo-seph Morrell and to Apostlo Merrill both of whom were presidents of the Cache stake. Ho succeeded President Presi-dent Joseph Morrell as present of theCache stake and served "In this position from 1906 to 1911. At the present time he was engaged In a produce, cold storage and fee busl-ness. busl-ness. t Isaac Smith Is survived by two fam Hies, one lives In Logan and the other oth-er in Rlverdale, Idaho. Besses his wife, Mrs. Camilla Smith, there are the following children-; Dr. Isaac S. Smith, W. R. Smith, Wesley E. Bmlth, Sarah Ann Lewis, Theron E. Smith, Leona B. Smith, George E. Smith .Malcolm W. Smith, and Ruby E. Smith. The family whch survive Mr. Smith at Rlverdale are Mrs. Elizabeth Eliza-beth Fuhrlman Smith, his wife and the following children; Jacob I. Smith, Joseph F. Smith, Wclland Smith, Ingraham Smith, Elva Smith and Oliver Smith. |
