Show BRITISH STEAMER DAMAGED BY FIRE London, Nov- 8. A dispatch from Lloyd's Sidney, N. S. W., correspondent says the following follow-ing wireless has been received there from the British steamer Norfolk, bound from New York for Melbourne: "Am afire. Position, latitude 38.27 south, longitude 147.6 east. Steamers Ceram, Koonda and Alabama are standing by." The British steamer Norfolk, Captain Hughes, left New York September 13 for Belbourne, Sidney and Brisbane. She is a vessel of 2556 tons. The point i at which she reports herself in distress is off the southeast coast of Victoria. London, Nov. 8. A Melbourne Mel-bourne dispatch to the Central News says the steamer Norfolk Nor-folk caught fire Saturday night and was beached on Ninety Mile beach, near Port Albert, on the southwest coast of Victoria. The crew is reported safe, but the vessel's position is critical. |
