Show 'Progressive Village Of Newton, Utah Newton, Feb. C. The old people of our ward wero happy on Wednesday Wednes-day of this week when the Old Folks committee tendered them their Annual Annu-al old pcoplo's party. The affair began be-gan with the rendition of a good spicy program of speeches, Jokes hnd bongs, after which the tables were spread with a feast that would have done honor to any of tho tables f the royal family and it was a source of enjoyment to see our veteran sires sit down to the same. When they hud eaten to thoir heart's content ihey were permitted to revive tho memories memor-ies of the past in an hour of old time dnnc.'ng in which they fully enjoyed themselves. Tho day was made dou-bly dou-bly bright by the assistance rendered by the boys composing tho brass band Their enlivening strains of inuslo were heard about town during the morning and they were present to help tho program move during the afternoon. It was well toward five o'clock when the dance' was at an end and they were conveyed to their homes. We appreciate theso grey haired citizens In our midst anil we love to honor them for what ttuy , have done for our welfare In the past. To sco them enjoying tho pleasantries pleasant-ries of tho day, makes us foal that It j would bo good to have them with us always, and It Is our wish that tucy may llvo many yenrsto enjoy just such entertainments ns thoy were accorded today. Tho Messrs, Kenneth Benson, Sedloy Jensen, Jen-sen, CyrJl Clarko, Royden Benson. Tho evening was (pent playing various games and delicious refreshments wero served. Mrs. Ann Clarko Is confined to her room at tho present writing, due to an attack of the la grippe. Her condition con-dition wag thought to bo serious but sho was rallied again and Is recovering recover-ing nicely. Miss Ellen Scarborough of Salt Lako City has been among us soliciting solicit-ing subscriptions for various popular magazines during1 tho pnst week. Miss Evelyn Chrlstensen Is visiting with relatives this week In Newton. Mr. Lucy Benson Stownrt of Teton City, Idaho Is hero visiting frlonds and relatives during tho present week Mrs. Hannah Hansen accompanied by her son W. P. Hansen woro call-en call-en to Teton City, Idaho on Thursday of last week to bo at tho bcdsldo of her aged father, who suffered a stroko of complete paralysis during tho day. Mr. W. P. Hansen returned Saturday Satur-day ovenlng and reported that tho aged goutlcmnn was In n prccnrlous condition nnd no hopes were held out for lils recovery. Tho Newton brass band gave a dr.nco on Friday ovenlng last, nt which thero wss a record breaking crowd and n general good tlmo wis hnd by all prosent. Tho danco last Friday ovcnlug ' brought homo tho boys nnd girls who hre attending school at Logan. Thosa ' seen were Mr. Amos GrlflVi, Howard Griffin, Harold Rlgby, Miss Rella Rig. by and Miss Delia Peterson. They returned the fore part of tho week. Miss Verna Llndquist and brother were the guests of Miss Rella Rlgby at the danco last week and returning to Logan Sunday evening. Miss. Leda Allen of Cove, Uthh, I3 visiting- with her sister, Mrs. A. a. ' Johnson this week. The Relief Socloty holds their annual an-nual meeting on Friday of this wee an extremely good time la anticipated by all and judging from tho success of theso gatherings In the past It goeB without saying that another good time will bo added to tho present pres-ent long l.'st of successful gatherings. Schools closed on Thursday of this week on account of a special Institute Insti-tute being called to conveno at the.
