A.. retired, professor of military science and tactics at the Utah Agricultural Agricultur-al College for the past two years, has been given command of the Students' Stu-dents' Army Training Corps unit established es-tablished at the institution, Including Includ-ing the national army training detachment de-tachment now In operation there, according ac-cording to a telegram just received by the captain. Captain Abbot graduated grad-uated from West Point In 1908. For the next two years he served in the' field artillery. From 1904 to 1908 he was instructor at West Point where he taught In the department ot foreign languages and tactics. While teaching at West Point Captain Cap-tain Abbot was assigned to the post artillery. Captain Abbot traveled extensively ex-tensively In western Europe while upon academic leave from West Point. Ho studied general and military mili-tary conditions In France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, Belgium and Holland. Napoleon's famous campaigns cam-paigns were studied upon the actuat battle fields. Captal Abbot also visited vis-ited the battlefield ot tho famous battle of Sedan where Prussia bo disastrously defeated France In -1870 Captain Atbot was later commander com-mander of Company 47, Coast Artillery, Ar-tillery, Fort Hunt, after which he was assigned to the submarine mine company at Fort Rosecrane, California. Califor-nia. In 1911 he received his commission com-mission as captatfl. Captain Abbot was assigned to duty as adjutant at the War prison camp at Fort Douglas at the establishment estab-lishment of that camp. In 1917 he was assigned to the Utah Agricultural Agricul-tural College as professor of military science and tactics. It was during Captain Abbot's first year at the college that the institution received a senior unit of the Reserve Officer's Training Corps. Much of the success suc-cess of that organisation has been' due to the organising skill of Captain Cap-tain Abbot.
