Show AMERICAN CITIZENS ARE PREPARING While Congress Is discussing plans for military reorganization, tho citizens citi-zens themselves are doing what thoy can to show their practical interest in the subject of preparedness. Tho work begun last summer by several thousand men nt the camps at Platts-burg, Platts-burg, N. Y., and Fort Sheridan, Illinois, Illin-ois, has been continued during tho winter by these men in their various homo vicinities. Local companies have been formed for drill work and lecture courses In military' affairs. Interest in this military movement hns spread from const to coast. It hns been estimated that as many ns 15,000 business and professional men In and near oup largo cities, aro now taking systematic courses in military training. Cavalry troops and nrtlllory batteries havo been organized ns well an Infnntry (companies. Tho National Nation-al Guard has boon strengthened by tho Impetus of tho proparedncss sentiment sent-iment and Is cooperating with Platts-burg Platts-burg camp men In vnrlous cities by extending tho uso of armories, rillo ranges, and other facilities. Tho universities, un-iversities, also, havo cauRht tho spirit of military preparation. Harvard has inaugurated a military course, and formed a regiment of infantry. Ynlo has organized an artlllory battery. Among the land-grant colleges giving military education, tho Unlvortilty of Illinois, with more than two thousand thous-and men under military instruction, Is a notablo example. Flvo camps havo already beon planned for next summer nt Plattsburg, and ono Is to bo held in tho South, at Chattanooga,' in tho spring. Others will doubtless be established further West and on tho Pacific Coast. It Is anticipated that tho attendenco nt noxt summor's camps will far exceed that of last year.
