For tho first tlmo In its history Los Angeles An-geles had a woman mayor today. Mrs. Estcllo Lawton Lindsoy, president presi-dent protcm of tho city council assumed as-sumed tho duties of chief executive of tho municipality In tho abscuco of Mayor Charles E. Sebastian and his second In command, Mnrtln Dethouaki president of tho council. Coming down town early Mrs. Lindsoy Lind-soy entered tho mayor's ofllco at 9 o'clock placed flowers on tho mayor's desk nnd that of tho secretary. Thereafter There-after sho attempted tho transaction of city business, but deputations of newspaper photographers, rcportors, city1 officials seeking ndvlco and coun-sol coun-sol and Anally club women kept her busy talking. Tho club women desired her to go to luncheon with them, but Bho offered of-fered her regrets. At noon tho reason rea-son became apparent. Dudley Lindsoy, Lind-soy, to whom tho mayoress referred to ask friend husband, appeared and escorted her to n cafeteria. |
