After having been wounded at least onco, tho Jtistlco turned back and had nearly regained tho gate opening into in-to his placo when ho foil dead. Tho murder was witnessed by no ono oxcopt tho nssassln who cenped. Later tho pollco detained two men on suspicion. Thoy nro Italian laborers, nnd according to tho pollco ono of them carried a loaded revolver. Tho body was found by Knowles' housekeeper, Mrs. Warddell, who had run from tho houso when sho heard tho shots fired.
