Tho estimated shipments of Portland Port-land coment during 1914 wero 8C,-715,000 8C,-715,000 barrels, compared with 88,-089,377 88,-089,377 barrels in 1913, a decrease of about 1,975,000 barrols or 2.2 per cent. On account of tho surplus of production over shipments stocks of coment at tho mills apparently Increased In-creased moro than 14 por cent or from 11,220,328 barrels In 1913 to 12,818,000 barrels at tho close of 1914. Tho ostlmates furnished by sorao producers undoubtedly includ cd moro or loss unground clinker, but It Is bollovod that tho figures for pro ductlon nnd shipments, if not for stocks, nro closo to thoso that will bo shown lator by exact reports from tho producers. Tho Lehigh district of eastern Pennsylvania Penn-sylvania and westorn Now Jersey produces moro coment than any other oth-er section of tho Unltod States about 28 per cent of tho total produc tlon. This district showed a do-creaso do-creaso of moro than 9 por cent in both production nnd shipments of Portland cement. Tho Illinois nnd northwestern Indiana district, which Is next lh lmportanco, with nn annual annu-al output of moro than 11,000,000 barrols, showod a slight decreaso, and the Pacific coast district (California (Cali-fornia and Washington), which Is third In lmportanco nnd producos nbout 8,000,000 barrols, showed a do creaso of about 12 per cent.
