Tho crop of finished steers Is much larger this year than In any recent joar, ono reason for tho small premium finished steers aro bringing over lighter weight short fed steers. Another reason Is that the beet trado is not In a very healthy stnte in the east. Light weight cuts can bo sold In largo quantities ,but the demand for big steaks Is disappointing. A string of 1450 pound steers sold here todny at $0.10 ,fed since tho first of September, Septem-ber, and the snm'o snlesmnn sold a lot of 1000 pound steers to tho same packer at $5.05, fed sixty or seventy days. A year ago now (ho cattlo market was spttlug In on a big ilse, vil tea advancing ono dollar per cwt, In February, but dealois do not expect anything of that sort Just rojv, althoug.i feeder buyers b-jo great possibilities In tho more dlsr.int future, fu-ture, from the prices they are paying, $175 to $0.00 for catlte for tho coan try . Hogs lost 17 cents last week, tho bear Influence being evident most of the ttmo during tho week. Tho run todny to-dny is 9,000 head market 5 to 10 higher, high-er, top $7.77', bulk $7.70 to $7.75. Heavy weights and lights havo changed chang-ed places on the price list nlnce a w-ck ago, tho lights now lending, while mixed paki-u weights remain In ihe middle. Ilea Ins sold today at $7.00 to $7.70. Eaitern order buyers bought light hiz.i freely, which awe tints partly for Ibo change of position. po-sition. Another faitor Is the inureas-liig inureas-liig percentage of heavy hogs In the receipts. Pheop nnd lanib. sold lower last week from day to day, especially after af-ter Wednesday, and the closo was a quarter under close of previous week. Market Is steady today, run 11,000 head .best lambs at $5.90, wothers, $4.25, owes $4.10, yearlings worth around $5.50 for light weight stock. January receipts here show a small Increaso over January last year, but dealers predict a bigger gain In February, Feb-ruary, although thoy admit that na-tlvo na-tlvo territory Is prety well stripped of offerings, and a good share of tho San Luis Vnlloy stuff, in Colorado, has been marketted. Tho Arkansas Valley haB not moved much stock yet .though there si a good run from that section hero today. |
