Show Military Ball' A Delightful Af f ar and iH Largely Attended. M Gorgeous Decorations, iH r Splendid Drill. , H The Mllltaiy Hall given at the H Thatcher pavilion Tuesday night by H the war dcpaitmeut of the A. C. of U. was probably the most successful of all the balls given in the new pavilion. In point of numbers present tho crowd was exceeded only by that of last June 1st, and In point of beauty in decora- tion and elaborate preparation no other occasion there equals It. The spacious hall was gorgeous In its mass - of bunting and magnlllccnt specimens of "Old Glory" suspended from the H celling and covering the wall, the iH refreshments were elaborate and of H such a nicety as to attract no little H attention, the drill by Capt. Styei's H cadets in uniform was superb, the H music by the Mllltaiy Hand under H Prof. Thatcher was little short of pro- H fcsslonal, and as a whole the occasion was one of such unallo)cd pleasure, . H (barring the crowded condition of the H Moor while dancing) that none could jH The special featuic of the affair was iH the drill by the soldiers, which came H after the sixth number of tho dancing H progiam. He matched, couhtcr marched, H foimed In platoons, loaded, Hied, H charged, gave the ba)onct drill, and H all those other countless maneuvcis H necessary to make clllclcnt soldiers, H and It was all done In such a way as to H win the heal ty plaudits of the assem- H After this the Military Hand gave a selection that was Indeed ofexcep- H tloual merit and the dancers weie H clamourous in their demand for an- other, but It wasn't forthcoming. Refreshments were announced about this time and the guests went to the J room on the balcony as they felt in- ell tied. Hero they found decorations J no less superb that on the lower lloor. Crepe paper was festooned from the cornci s to the center of the ceiling, H and from a booth behind palms ladles served punch. A long tablo In the center ot the lloor contained paper plates and a list of good things too H long to mention cake, sandwiches, pickles, etc. One had but to help ' H themselves and call for as much of H that punch as thelr)eapaclty demand- H The guests ate, drank and danced H until 1 o'clock and then weie loth to H Consplcious on the balcony were H pictures of Washington, Lincoln, H Grant, Mclviuley and Roosevelt.
