Show The Need Today. Two learned gentlemen stood on the corner and discussed "the need of the world today." Both mentioned many things the world would be the. bettor I for having, but to the writer it seemed seem-ed that they missed many things this world needs most. ! To us the world Is too full of sad- ness and sorrow, misery and sickness; j It needs more sunshine; It needs cheerful cheer-ful lives which radiate gladness; It needs encouragers who will lilt up and not bear down, who really encourage. Who can estimate tho value Of a sunny soul who scatteis good cheer ever)-where ever)-where he goes Instead of gloom and sadness? Everybody is attracted to the chceriui aces and sunny lives, anil 'repelled by the gloomy, the morose and the sad. We envy people who radiate cheer wherever they go and lllng out gladness from every poie. Money, houses and lands look contemptible con-temptible beside such a disposition. The ablllity to ladlate sunshine Is a greater "powei than beauty, oi than mere mental accomplishments. (real men. great deeds, great Improvements, Im-provements, lewer trusts, giealcr perfection per-fection in the sciences and piofesslons, giciter chanty, all would make t lie world better, but naught nor all of these can mean as much as a universal univer-sal cliccrfulncis; that disposition wlilch sees tho brighter sldo of all things; that disposition that unconsciously uncon-sciously lightens o presslvo burdens c f others: that disposition wlilch radiates g life, good cheer, happlneis, and turns thistles into roses, thorns into laurels. If things go wrong, why make them woisc by permitting the soul to become be-come embittered? Life Is beautiful, grand, glorious-no glorious-no one has the right to fee) sad and oppressed. Though all adversity come, still the brightness will eclipse the son ow If the soul Is but open to lccelvo It. What's that little screed of .lames Whllcomb Itllcy's? It runs something like this: If every cloud lias a silver lining, I'll wear mine wrong side out To see them shining. Wc ghothls with apologies to the author, but Isn't It a beautiful sentiment? senti-ment? Let's be chcciful: let's look happy and try to feel happy and wc will make others so and It will llnally become constitutional with us. This Is an obligation wo owe ourselves and otheis. H |
