Show A COMMERCIAL CLUB The Need of one Discussed. What Prominent Business Men Say. The commeiclal value of Logan Is steadily Incicaslng. Today our city occupies an enviable position to all other cities of the State with Salt Lake only excepted. Business Interests Inter-ests are in better standing, more Industries In-dustries aie being launched, men with capital aie looking more to Cache Valley, mining has a better outlook, and withal a gieater feeling of security secur-ity picvalls among the people than ccr before in the history of the community. com-munity. Comcrclal men who visit Logan go away with tho Impression that business is first class and they speak of It In other cities. All this being be-ing true the imperative demand upon the business men is that they effect an organisation that will enable them to act with unity upon tho public questions ques-tions which will affect this city. A commeiclal club, a board of trado or some such an organisation is looked upon by most all the business men as the tiling by which to look Into business busi-ness matters of public Impoitancc. Opinion is not divided upon tho fact, that, unity is greatly needed heie. As a matter of fact it Is surprising to many how well affahs have gone hero considering the lackof unity. As with the formation of our government so it should bo w Ith our city and by all means let us have unity; and to do this many must come down from the pedestal they hae assumed to erect and put their shouldeis to the wheel of progress pro-gress and push. If the man exists here who so holds himself within his shell of egotism as to faint at tho suggestion sug-gestion of unity let him come out into the sunshine of commeiclal prospeilty and hae his soul oxpand some. Or if tlicro lias existed, or docs exist, a clan of business men who arc lcady to fly at othcis mid lend them to pieces, let them forget tlich littleness and glow Into stalwast oaks of business gentlemen. gentle-men. For If a club of any kind is oi-ganicd oi-ganicd to further the business Interests Inter-ests of Logan all littleness must bo put aside, lellgious sects forgotten, political politi-cal issuesabandoned.sellishnessdeseit-cd issuesabandoned.sellishnessdeseit-cd and artagonjsm relegated to Its pio-por pio-por sphcie, all to be heard of no moie. A social business oiganlation should then be built upon the nilns. Theic is, though, it class of men In Logan who can undertakes this matter mat-ter and see It thtough to success. While theic isa dlvoislty In the cliai-acteristlcs cliai-acteristlcs of tho business men, thcio ceitalnly must be one or two among them who can lead tho majoiltj into a framo of mind at which unity can tu-llve. tu-llve. Bioadmlndcdness has suicly dfffuscd Itself in suillcient quantity to allow a great latitude as to who shall belong. The essential thing, though, is to have as the head of this oigunlza-t oigunlza-t ion men of undoubted influence behind be-hind whom will stand the umalnder of the club and behind the club, the people. Expressions from a few of the leading lead-ing business men hae been gatheied. It must bo said heie, too, that some gentlemen hao been considering tills matter for some time but as jet have not been able to effect an organization. organiza-tion. It is hoped that the gathering of these expressions will result in a meeting where desired results may be obtained. Some suggest that the major circulated a petition, or give out a call for tho business men to meet. Tills is a good suggestion and ought to bo taken up. MAVOH LOltKNOIIANbKN It is a' splendid idea. Such an organization organ-ization should bo gotten up if possible for it would result In great good for Logan. 71 needs unity, though. Such a club .should not undertake too gicat things. Begin with small things, tho same a? Individuals, for tho public affairs af-fairs after all, aie like tho affairs of Individuals. In-dividuals. It would bo difficult to keep them working, but IT they undertake a small thing and arc successful in that then they will take Interest In working together. Yes, the Idea Is very good and should bo cncouiagcd. , II. F. ItlTlIU A very good Idea. Wo lack concerted concert-ed action. If we could get together on public mattcis such as railroad time tables, lates and such things, Incalculable Incal-culable benefit would bcdeilvcd. All towns, almost, have such an organization. organiza-tion. Diaper and little towns like that have them. Wo might as well drop pretty-fogging actions, for tho time will come when we will have to. I would suggest that the major should make a call for a meeting to consider this matter. V II.IMIKSTOK, .nt, Tho in it tor has been talked of by social or us but noairangemcntshavo as jet, been made. It Is the thing to do, though, and cveiy effort will bo made to make such an affair a success. suc-cess. bKTH A. LANO'lON It wont go, because we lack unity. It would have to bo made a social as well as a business affair and there aio a number of the business men who would not feel like suppoitlng such an organization. It has been tiled once or tw Ice but it failed. But It is the proper thing to have If wo can have it. I hardly think, howocr, the town Is laige enough. JosniMi jiouuhll "I believe it would leqiilic a city of 50,000 to make It a go. However, it Is a good thing and has my suppoit If undertaken." jiosi:s tiiatoiiihi "Tho city is probably not stioug enough to support such a thing, but If it could bo sustained It would be excellent if pnly as a social affair. It would be lino for tho business of the city, In fact, it Is needed. It will have my suppoit If stalled." A. H. THOMl'SON "It wpnld bo good for tho Inteiests of the city and if the merchants tako it up, would be a social success, Just the tiling needed heie. As a business pioposltlon it ! excellent and I inn in favor of It but I would be moio in favor of It could It be mado a social club as well. I am willing to help In tho suppoit." KOIIKIIT JIUltllOOK "The city needs It and It will liavo my suppoit. Ihavoa gieat number of Inquiries fiom different souices ie-gardlng ie-gardlng Logan and I do what I can for them, but if an organization could be had these mattcis could bo attended at-tended to. I daio say If this thing can be mado a go that Inside of live j cars there will bo an Increase In population pop-ulation of one half." MOSKS TIIATC'linU Jit., "If I were living here I would be In for It. It Is a very good thing." J. VV. CltAAVFOllt). "Yes it's a good thing. Tlicro arc a number of moneyed men moving into in-to Logan now and with them, the business men ought to work up a good organization. Tho country could como in, for that matter, and no doubt thorn would be a great benefit derived." It. HULLKN Jit., "It's all right." KItKU CATKS "Yes It is all right. The trouble Is to get the men to work It. They don't want to. And then there are knockers. Of course, If we all worked It would go." II. O. HAY1IALL "It Is the very thing needed. If ("here hatf been such a club last winter we would not have had the trouble with coal that we had. But It could be extended to the coutitj just as well. Let them come In. We could woik together and accomplish big ie-suits. ie-suits. .M. .1, 1IAM.AU1) "Kit Is inn light it will he Just tho thing. Oct a good man at the head. The advertising of the town could be taken up, a feeling of unltj could be gotten and good icsults could be achieved. For Instance, the matter of it tannery could bo looked Into and one established heieeasllj'. Tho rail-load rail-load Is contemplating some changes now in the valley, and, If a commercial commer-cial club representing the business Interests of Logan should look Into the matter we could, beyond a doubt, obtain great concessions if not get on the main line itself. J. K. CAllDO.V. That Is something we have talked of for thiee jeais but couldn't get the merchants to tako It up. We aie too much for ouiselvcs. VV. .1. ltOIII.VhO.V. Yes, I think It a good thing. OSCAU 1UOIIKMAN. It would piovcof benefit to Logan. A. Jl. FLEMING. T hope It can bo made a success. It Is what we need and should have. Clubs of a similar charactor are in other cities. We could get Industries hero that, otherwise, we cannot even get lnteiestcd. English capital wants to put in some woolen mills and if wo had something to show for our town, heie would be the place to bring such it concern. We have plenty of natm.il facilities but lack the piopor thing to show them off. T. I.K ItOV CAltDON. I think It a spendld Idea. We need such a thing. x. M. HANSEN. It Is a good oiganlzatlon. STAVB SENATOlt CIKOKOK IlAltllElt. No doubt it Is tho proper thing but I doubt if it could bo kept going, as Interest lags so In that kind of work. If theic Is anj tiling Hint could bo accomplished ac-complished light at piesent by such an oiganlzation, the oiganlatlon should bo effected at once. I would bo glad to meet with tho business men and discuss the matter. ATTOItNKV.T. O. VVALTHItS. It would be difficult to keep such an organisation going but It would bo an excellent thing if accomplished. L. It. 3IAUTINEAU Theic Is no question of the propiicty of It. 1 would ceitalnly support It If the right men wcio placed at tho head. HON'. AIJUILA NEIIEKKU It Is the light thing. Logan Is largo and wealthy enough to support it. There Is no city in tho United Stntes of tho same standing that Is so lacking lack-ing In Just this thing. YKVll THOMAS Most assuredly, It Is the light thing and should be supported by all tho business men. JOHN A. HKNlllllCKSHN Tho plan Is excellent. If Jealousies will bo laid aside and the business men become united the results will bo many and good. HON. JOSEl'H HOWELL. Such an oiganlzatlon would bo of great value to Logan and Cache County.
