He states that the farmers west of the river feel much encouraged by the fiequent storms which arc soaking the land in good shape. The people Interested in the Newton rcseivoir weie much exorcised last week over their storage of water and the safety of the dam. At the end of last season the gates to the dam were closed. Ice formed two and one-half feet thick duilng the winter. When the thaw was on last week the lcservior Ulled up with a great deal of water and raised the ice aiound the head gate. A large plcco was fro.cn to it, and as the ice raised, the gate went with it. It was thought for a time that all the storage of water would escape and the head-gate head-gate be mlned.The pleceof Ice attached attach-ed to the gate was vciy large and could not be removed, but the happy thought occurred to one of the men to blow the Ice with diiamlte. This was done and the gate dtopped to its place, thus saving the water and head-gate. head-gate.
