Ono of the most Interesting relics on exhibition In tho office of Secretary cf State Crockett Is tho rlflo which as presented by admiring friends to his great grandfather, tho Immortal Davy Crockett, hero of tho Alamo and author of tho cqunlly Immortal phraso: "Bo sure you aro right and then go ahead." This gun was carried by tho grandson of tho first owner, tho Into (Jen. "Bob" Crockott, who fought down much gamo with it, but now It has been retired with honor and full pay to pass tho remalndor ot Its days, or centuries, as a relic of ono of tho greatest characters this country has ever produced. It Is a formidable-looking weapon, originally origi-nally of the flint-lock typo, with a 40-caltber 40-caltber bore. The barrel was originally origi-nally forty-six Inches long, but somo of It has been cut off and It Is now only forty and a half Inches. It was presented to David Crockett soon after his second election to congress in 1829, by somo of his admiring young whig friends of Philadelphia. It cost 250 and was made especially for him. Tho donors raised tho money by contributing halt a dollar each to tho fund. Tho stock Is trimmed in sterling Bllvcr, appropriately designed with figures of tho Goddess of' Liberty, a raccoon, a doer's head and other llgures. Along tho upper part of tho barrel are tho letters, sot Into tho metal In gold, somo of which has worn out: "Presented by tho Young Men of Philadelphia to tho Hon.
