We, tho graduating class Of 1913 ot the district schools of Cacho county havo mot here today to-day to bid eaoh other farewell and glvo thanks to those who havo helped us In gaining this our flrst stop In education. We havo como-to a period whoa wo must part and travel different patha In life. Boforo starting wo must ox-amino ox-amino our capacities and gifts and then put them to tho host use we may as wo aro going to strive to follow fol-low that which la best suited to us. Probably no two among us will follow tho samo path for In the unlvorso of God thero aro no two souls allko and no two with tho samo work to do. Emerson says, "Nature arms each man with somo faculty which enables him to do easily some feat Impossible to another. It we all accomplish this feat tho conditions of our country will Improve vastly. Wo will be hr tho different forms of vapor soma doing do-ing moro good to tho land than others oth-ers but each very necossary.. Some are going to choosesmooth, eaBy paths, others more difficult and those with tho blghqst alma. are choor Ing steep rugged 'paths'. i Somo aro going to travel farther than others, some learn moro than others, somo teach more thunvothers yot wo bavo only ono llfo to llvo &o wo nro planning to do tho best with It and maka tho most of it. Wo aro going to lay hold of work and.leavo out such qualities as pretense, pre-tense, worry and discontent. Wo are each planning for our future and have somo expectations In mind, somo special work to do, for llfo Is tor work nnd patience, and eternity Is sv long thero will yet bo tlmo for dream-Continued dream-Continued on page tlvo. t VALEDICTORY J Continued from pago one log. I Our education has Its effect not I only on our homo surroundings but I upon tho nation. As we Increase in I knowledgo tho nations of the enrth ' will lncreaso In civilization. We'll not make tho samo mistakes lis those be- " foro us have made, but profiting by them will go on nnd build higher. Tho world Is becoming more slvll . ized day by day for the reason that I education Is being more strictly en. forced. It Is our duty to becomo educated edu-cated becauso It Is a duty to becomo useful citizens and becauso It Is through tho public that we havo gone this far. It Is our duty to help others to advance. Eduction In Its broadest sense Is tho development and cultivation of tho powers of man, in n narrower sense nnd that by which the term Is genornlly used, tho development and cultivation of tho Intellectual powers. Tho purposo of education hns always been tbo supplying of some human need, It is not to bo taken ns mere scholarship for tho development and cultivation of an Individual Is the gradual unfolding of all his possibilities. possibil-ities. To accomplish this unfolding education must como nearer to every day life, and thht is where our teachers teach-ers havo been trying to place It year after year. This Is what wc roust keep In mind In deciding upon the path wo will follow. I From this day forth we must think R more for ourselves for we will not II havo the close guidance which wo H havo been accustomed to. The world iM will not provo the same ns it did In lj our nulet district school dnys. Our ' duty will not bo marked out so clehr-ly clehr-ly nor our work bo so well defined. And so It Is with a feeling of sadness sad-ness that wo say farewell to our past line of work, although wo look forward for-ward to tho futuro with pleasure. Wo w'h to thnnk the members of i .ph- - board who have been so proimt In supplying the equipment and material necessary for our advancement ad-vancement nnd for their wise choice of teachers to assist us. Wo thank tho superintendent for the encournge- fl ment ho has "over given ub and our ' J tenchers for the patient efforts they I have put forth to guide ub thus far. J Wo thank our kind parents for the I sacrifices they havo constantly mado, ' and h6pe they will still give us their support nnd sympathy In our new work. To our .classmates, fnrewell.for, al-1 though we will still see each other i often, no where else In our lives will III wo bo so closoly associated as we have been In tour separate classes In III tho county schools. Wo will mingle with other students In other classes I but our association will nover be so 1 dear to us as this has been. Fare-well. |
