Houses In Toklo and Yokohama were rocked violently and the people were greatly alarmed. So far as can bo learned there were no casualties, and tho damage was slight. The yearly averago record of earthquake earth-quake shocks for Toklo Is nlnty-slx, according to tho result of observations extending over twenty-six years. In tho las', fifty yeatrs only two sovero shocks baVe been experienced, one In 1684 and the other ten years later. In other parts of Japan, however heavy earthquakes are common.
