Show I Its members are a dynamic force fcr jsood or 111 throughout our stato and her sister neighboring commonwealths. common-wealths. Is the Collego using this force? To me, It appears, only par. tlally so. Does It deslro to do it I trust It does. As a representative of this association, asso-ciation, I stand now to plehd that the College como out nnd enlist the support sup-port ot this splendid organization In place of a partially llstlesii, lifeless body It can be made alive and en crgetlc. I fancy some say, "Alio, how can It bo done?" Many of ttie "ider Alumni to whom I hhve spol.en toel tho solution ot the problem to be as fc'lows: Tho Alumni association mu-" be represented on the boal'd ot trus-tees trus-tees by one of their number duly elected by them. This Individual Is to bo a medium between the College and Its graduates. Can our beloved ' A. C. continue to expect tho undlvld- ; ed support of Its best and truest men and women, Its graduates, un- i less It gives them a direct voice In I Its control and management. I leave ' the nnswer to this splendid gathering gather-ing this afternoon. Again, I hear a murmur theoretical theoreti-cal It can't be done. The Alumni association realizes full well that under un-der present conditions the constitution constitu-tion says It can't be done. Times have changed since that Instrument was made. Cannot the Istrument be chajnged? Wo will find a way providing pro-viding the College desires it. You remember the saying-, "Where there Is a will thero Is a way." ' Again, I hear a faint whispering, "The Alumni association Is represented represent-ed on the board of trustees by one of Its members already. True, but not that this member would not be cholco of the association but that the member Is not plated their by this body. God forbid any reflection on tho choice of His Excellency our governor. I question anyone could choose hotter than ho. 'It Is tho prlnclplo not the person tho 'association 'associa-tion stands for. Tho association could well chooso tho same person. It Is n source of gratification to me to havo th0 privilege of voting for a member of the board of trustees ot Cornell University of which institu-uto institu-uto I am an Alumni. Others teel ma I do. In conclusion, let mo say, tho Alumni Alum-ni association stands for tho educational educa-tional policy of tho U. A. C. as out lined by our esteemed' president; It Btnnds for comradeship and affiliation amongst Its members; hnd finally, It stands now at the threshold of the Collego saying "Uso me,, not only to 'enunciate generalities, but use mo i In nctlvo labor In tho working out of detaills by giving me a direct voice and sympathy In the work." |
