Benson Cut-off Again Considered. New Members Entered. ,City Commissioners Made Ex-Officio Members of Board of Directors. Some very important matters wero presented and discussed at tho meeting meet-ing of tho Club held February 21 at. Mr. Olof Kelson, chairman ot tho Committee on Street Paving gavo tho following roport as to cost ot paving pav-ing certain ports of Main Center and First North streets: "Your commltteo on Itoads, Streets nnd Pavements, which was requested to Investigate as to tho probablo cost of tho entire district proposed to bo paved bog lcavo to roport: The cost ot paving with sheet asphalt on Main street from North curb lino on First South to South' curb lino on Second North would be $56,673, divided as follows: $42,944 for abutting property, $12,029 for city $1,700 for street railway; per abutting abut-ting foot, $11.48 with railway and $13.42 without rallway. On Center street from East curb lino on First West to curb line on First East, total cost, $16,7D3, divided as follows: $14,290 for abutters part 1 $1,463 city's part, and $1,000 for I street railway; abutters paVt per 1 front foot $9.00 without railway and I $7.42 with railway. Tho samo cost l would apply to First North street. I Tho cost of tho cutlro Intended im- provement would bo $90,179 of which amount tho city would pay $14,95), I tho streot railway $2,700, leaving $72,- B &24 to abutting property. Your committee has made inquiry legarding Bltullthlc paving and I found it to bo nlghly recommended I whero laid, as being noiseless, dust I free, and durablo and somewhat I cheaper than sheet asphalt. Mr. K. Bj C. Schaub of our commltteo is now in I Los Angoles and was specially re- I quested by Mr. II. 12. Hatch, presld- I ont of tho club to got all the informa tion possible concerning paving. Mr. Robert Anderson has been asked to investigate tho result of paving In Portland, Oregon, whoso roport wo shall havo the benefit of. Your commltteo is under tho Impression Im-pression that most of tho money would bo spent In our city, and that each property owner abutting said district would bo fully compensated for tho expenditure. This Is tho verdict ver-dict from other cltlos whero such lm. provcraents havo been undertaken. Why should this not also be tho caso in Logan. Mr. Itobert Anderson reported that Ultullthlc pavoraent was bolngrused mostly in tho cities of Oregon and it was giving very satisfactory results, re-sults, and thoro wero cities smaller and poorer than Logan which wore doing considerable street paving. 1 It was decided that tho commltteo on Stroet Paving bo authorized to go "ahead and present tho matter to tho city commissioners and see If a start along this lino could bo made this j ear. Mr. H. llullon, chairman ot the Railroad transportation committee reported re-ported in regard to tho Benson Cut-'off. Cut-'off. V. Mr. Isaac Smith nnd others wero present ln the interest of getting n boulevard along tho Logan River. It was reported that there was a possibility possi-bility of getting an appropriation from tho stato to assist In putting tho river ln good condition, nnd with tho assistance ot tho City and the Club a beautiful drlvoway could bo made. It was decided that the prcsldenc) appoint a commltteo to work with tho Island commltteo and tho com-mltto com-mltto ot tho city and sco what could bo dono. Mr. J. H. Wilson, chairman of tho membership committee, reported tho following applicants for membership. Wm. II. Thaln, Frank Shurtllf, F. W. Blair, N. P. Nlclson Jr., E. C. Shop-hard, Shop-hard, R. N. Hill, Wnrd-McAlllster and W. H. Blood. The commltto was complimented com-plimented on its good work nnd asked ask-ed to continue tho same. In order that tho club nnd tho city might bo In close touch with each other and work harmoniously togcth. cr, tho Commltteo on Nominations recommended re-commended that, the City Commis-sloners Commis-sloners bo made exofflclo members of tho Board of Directors of the club". Tho recommendation was accepted. A letter which had been received from Master Stanley Schaub who !s studylug at tho Conservatory of Music Mus-ic at Boston, was read. All present were pleased to note that Master Schaub Is "making good."
