Show BULL MOOSERS DID WITHDRAW jn a recent issue we announced some withdrawals from the Bull Moose ticket, and in the last issuo of our local contemporary we note the following:, fol-lowing:, . "Tho report printed In Tho Logan Republican that many of the Bull Moose candidates on tho county ticket had declined to run and had withdrawn from tho ticket, turns out to be entirely false." Replying to the above wo .desire to say. that nothing can possibly be further fur-ther from the truth, as the gentleman whom wo announced would not run on the Bull Moose ticket we are sure will testify. In our issue of the 15th Instant wo mado the statements referred re-ferred to, and in doing so we gave tho news as It was reported to us. We do not know whether or not theso gentlemen have reconsidered their decisions or not, and wo do. not care, but what wo do say is that on the date referred to we gave the news. and gave It accurately. Tako the first case, that of Bishop William Winn of Smlthfleld. While at the recent lnterurban celebration at Smlthfleld wo talked over the political po-litical situation with Mr. Winn and ho told us ho wbb being Importuned to run for the legislature on tho Bull Mooso ticket, but that he had decided decid-ed that he would not run, and had told the Bull Moose leaders as much. Of courso there was plenty of time for him to change his mind between that tlmo and tho holding of tho convention, con-vention, but upon learning of his nomination nom-ination wo conferred with him personally per-sonally on the matter on Mon'dny tho 14th Instant, nnd ho authorized us to say for him Just what wo said In our Issuo of tho 15th instant, which was that no ono had authority to uso his name, that ho had given tho promoters promot-ers of tho third party to understand that ho would not run, nnd that ho posltfvely would not accept tho nomination. nom-ination. Of course ho may havo changed his mind since nnd decided to make tho rnco. That Is his busl-ness busl-ness and something of which wo havo no concern, but wo havo no fear but what Mr. Winn will stand by tho accuracy of our statement. As to tho Joseph B. Brown caso, tho matter was roported trom Wolls-vlllo, Wolls-vlllo, hut boforo publishing wo thought It best to" call Mr. Brown personally per-sonally nnd havo It vorifled, Wo did so and Mr. Brown himself said in so many words that ho had "forwarded hfs withdrawal to Albert Law," and further stated that ho could not accent ac-cent tho nomination. Mr. Brown at-tuiuurda at-tuiuurda gavo tho Inference that ho did not want tho place to go vacant on tho tlckot, and thnt Mr. Law had stated that tho committee could fill tho vncancy, but in case It became Impossible to got any one to take tho place wo gathered tho Inferenco that Mr. Brown might be drafted In to raako tho sacrifice As to the withdrawal with-drawal wo stand pat on Mr. Brown's own atntoment, nnd nro satisfied that he will not repudiate It It was a (Continued on page 8) BULL MOOSERS DID WJHDRAW (Continued from pngo one.) fact then. Ho mny have reconsidered reconsider-ed slnco. Ab to tho Dnlnes case It was telephoned tele-phoned to the office, nnd as Mr. Dnlnes could not bo reached to verify veri-fy It, wo called his brother who did verify It, and approved tho part of our article relating to Mr. Dallies. Wo have no dcslro to misrepresent theso gentlemen, or nny ono else, but wo do dcslro to cnll our journalistic friends down In this mntter, and give them to understand that whnt we said was not false, and to submit ns ovldcnco tho statements of the gentlemen gentle-men in question, 'notwithstanding any .recent decisions they mny have made to tho contrary. It 1b possible of course, that all three mny havo decided to run nnd havo recalled their withdrawals. Messrs Peterson and Blthel wero very busy for Bomo tlmo after tho convention conven-tion brnctng up tho boys it Is reported, re-ported, and may have succeeded in whipping them Into line. |
