Show A Cold Future. Up here In the Cache Valley corner of the state we have every prospect of a coal famine of the biggest proportions. propor-tions. One dealer has received orders that It would take fifty carloads to satisfy and ho hasn't a ton in his yards. This Is due to two causes. Owing Ow-ing to the strike in the Wyoming coal fields we are receiving no more coal from that state. It Is also impossible for us to receive coal from the Utah coal fields as the freight rates from Ogden to Logan are prohibitive as they amount to $2.20 per ton. Two years ago this wa3 reduced to 31, but even If we should get that rate now the Utah Coal company has Its hands full supplying sup-plying Salt Lake and Ogden. Logan sutlers from the dlsadvantageof being on a branch line by having greater freight rates to pay for all that comes from tho south of Ogden. So we arc dependent on Wyoming for our coal and while the strikers there control the situation wo remain with empty coal bins. Something must bo done and that right early. A conference between the authorities of tho two states might bo helpful, for each needs the other, and as Cache valley would be the most benefited by such a conference con-ference Its Commercial club should take tho first steps to bring this meeting meet-ing about. |
