"Tote" is good Englsh, on higher au-thorlty au-thorlty than that It Is u colloquialism which has become engrafted Into our language It Is Anglo-Saxon to tho core, as, says Bosworth's Anglo-Saxon Dictionary, London edltlonjof 1862, thus: "Tote from Titian, to lift up, to carry In tho handH or upon tho person per-son in tho same sonso as tho Latin Tollotollere." Toto is not known except ex-cept among English descended people, and is unqusstlonably correct, although al-though now obsoleto to n great oxtent. |
