Show $ Mendon and Hyde Park News sr . Christmas Festivities and Other Items of Much Interest MENDON, Dec. 31. Christmas passed off very quietly on account of the weather. At 10 a. m. a proKram 1 was given In the meeting house and In the afternoon a dance for tho clill-drcn, clill-drcn, followed in tho evening by a ball at Richards hall for tho benefit of the Sunaay school. The house was crowded In spite of the rain. Friday evening a dance was given In Richards hall at which a prize of a gold watch was offered for tho best dancer among the gents and a gold ring for tho best lady dancer. Danny Bird and Eva Bartlett were the winners The judges were Mr. John Westover of Logan, Mr. Henry Sorenson and Magnus Larson. Lar-son. Mr. Thos. Gardner, of Teton city, Idaho, who is on his way to the Sand-witch Sand-witch Islands to fulfill a mission, Is In town for a few days visiting friends and relatives. Cora Ilardman, Anno Hughes, Edna Baker and Delia Lemons who have been away tcaohlng school camo home to spend tho holidays. Some of them will attend the convention a Provo In Januarys Mr. and Mrs. John Gardner are spending the holidays with their parents. x f Mr. and Mrs. Aleck -Bulst, of Gar s'- uer, senta couple of days In Mendon Men-don on their way to SaltXake. Alice Longstroth has returned home from Canada where she has spent several months. Emily Wilde, of Coalville, came to Mendon with Cora Ilardman to spend the holidays. George Sorenson hau gone to Salt Lake for the winter. Artie Richards came homo from Salt Lake to spend the holidays. She' will return In a few days. A fine program was held In the Presbyterian Pres-byterian chapel for tholr day and Sunday school scholars Christmas Eve The house was crowded, and many presents were given to their scholars who were delighted with the beautiful Christmas tree. , 1 ' Ethel Longstroth lias returned home from Bait Lake to spend a few days. We still have lots of lagrippo, which is much easier to get than to euro. Willo Pottle, who was critically III with pneumonia, Is now Improving rapidly and his parents who were summoned sum-moned frbm Rexburg, Idaho, expect to return soon. - Mr. and Mrs. John Westover, of Logan, ate their Christmas dinner at Mendon. I Bertha Richards, of Centcrvlllo 1 who has been In Salt Lake studying I nursing, Is spending tho holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ilyrum Richards. Jennie Dunn, of College ward, was a guest of Sybil Jensen for a few days. Mrs. Christian Sorenson spent fit CfUjJstmas with her family. Mrs. Sor-L. Mr and Mrs. Richard George, of Swan Lake, are visiting with relatives and frisnds. HYDE PARK, Doc. 30.-Chrlstmas passed here with but little excitement. There was a dance In tne afternoon for the children, alo one at night for the adults. There was little profanity and no drunkenness; tho spirit of "peace on earth, good will to man" seemed to prevail In tho hearts of all. For tho first time In years we have en-Joyed en-Joyed Christmas entertainments of various kinds given by the different associations. On Christmas day the Hyde Park's nimrod, Riley Harris, went hunting. On Cedar hill, east or town, he saw what appeared to be a cyote. Raising his gun he fired and the animal fell. On reaching his game, however, ho was surprised to find that he had killed a largo bobcat, commonly called wildcat. As he stood there looking down at it a peculiar sound caught'hls ear, and looking tip. saw a second bobcat bob-cat charging upon him. Ho fired three shots, the last ono piercing tho animal's ani-mal's brain and killing it Instantly not more than fifty feet from where he stood. He finally managed to get them home and found that they weighed 45 and 30 pounds apiece. Mr. narrls felt quite proud or his achievements achieve-ments and has the animals on exhibition exhibi-tion at his home. Quite a number of old-time Hyde Parkers are here visiting relatives and friends. On Saturday last Brother Thomas W. Klrby, our mall carrier and ono of our aged pioneers, had an attack of heart failure. At this writing he has somewhat improved, but is still In a critical condition, nis many friends give heartfelt wishes for his speedy recovery. , Mr. William Price and wife, or Iona, Idaho, Is visiting with Mrs. Price's pareqts, Dr. James and Rachuel Han-cey. Han-cey. Edward Duce and wife, of Cardston, Canada, are down visiting their old homes. On Tuesday evening, December 31, there was a dance in the hall for the married people. Jesse S. and James S. Hanccy are putting up a largo house for Bishop nerman Danlclscn or Lewlston. Jesso S. nancey is tho architect or the building. build-ing. Edward Klrby, or Falrvlew, Idaho, camo down a rew days ago to see his sick brother, Thomas W. Klrby. Dr. James nancey can now walk about the houses with a cane. Ho is still troubled a great deal, however, with rheumatism. |
