A special teachers' examination examina-tion was held at the county court house Saturday, in which four persons participated- for grammar gram-mar grade certificates that they will be able to teach mixed schools in the county. They at present hold primary certificates, 9 but these are not sufficient for ' teaching a mixed school. With the exception of Lewis-ton, Lewis-ton, Trenton, Cove and Alt. Homo schools in the northern part of 9 the county and Wcllsville, Avon and Newton in the southern part, Superintendent J. L. McCarrey has made visits this fall and has found the schools doing effective worlc. These schools nbovo mentioned men-tioned will bo visited next week, with the exception of the Newton New-ton school, which is not yet started. start-ed. Tlie reason of this is a delay in the building of the new school house. The old one is in such a dilapidated condition that it was thought unprofitable to' have it repaired for temporary use. It is thought that the now house will bo ready by December 1. New Lewiston School. The now school house at Lewiston, Lew-iston, it is thought, will not bo ready for occupancy this school year, but the old house is not in such a bad condition but it can be. used to pretty good advantage this season with the renting of one of tlio city halls. THo scKool thcro is so crowded, however, that it is unable to handlo the ninth grado students this year. At Richmond and Smithficld the ninth grado classes are doing very effectivp work. The class at Richmond is composed of 13 stu-dents, stu-dents, while?, the ono at Smithficld has 23. At Smilhfield the class is putting on all the airs that tho first year students put on at the colleges. The class is organized and has its class colors. A football foot-ball team is organized and is playing very good ball. Tho students stu-dents from theso classes aro able when entering the collcgo to take j up second year, work and keep ' (3fc right along with tho class. In fact, ' "Superintendent McCarrey thinks they aro tho best students. These students have tho advantage advan-tage of thoso who aro away to sohool by bjing homo and having I tho benefit of a parent's training. I As it is now students graduate I from the eighth grado at about 14 I years 'or ago and thoy aro too a young, so thinks tho supcrintend- 1 ent to bo sent away from homo Vf'H ;1' to school.- The --temptations aro .r -A. a ' " ' " IUMM-JH jUUrJ.
