At 10 a.m. tho peoplo assembled in tho meeting house where a line programme pro-gramme was rendered consisting of songs, recitations, toasts and sentiments senti-ments by the people. In the afternoon a good ball game was played between Wellsvllle's tlrst T" nine and a picked team from Weber ' county, and although tho Wcberltes have licked everything they have tun up against yet, when they came to ! play with Wellsvlllo they had a hard "f task before them. Weber made two , , runs In the first Inning, but they wero only pormlttcd to make three more runs thorough tho entlro nine Innings, , as Wellsvlllo seemed to bo at their ' best. At the close of tho ninth Inning the score stood 20 to G in favor of the home team. Tho day closed with a big danco In the pavilion. Hon. Tho visitors were whitewashed white-washed tho last five Innings, not one of them reaching tlrst base. At the v first half of tho ninth Inning the game scored 6 to 2 in favor of our team. At tho closo of tho gamo Lowlston put up their trained foot racer for a 150 yard raco with James Allen of this fe place, which they' won by a scratch. T . Mr. Allen was not In a condition to tun as he had Just got home from working In the Held and took a prominent promi-nent part In the ball game. They then challenged any man In our city to wrestle with tl.elr champion. The Jiomc boys put up Andrew Hutchinson Hut-chinson and, although the Jattcr Is a much older man and had been working work-ing In tho sugar beets all day, ho took and threw tho Lewlston man twice without much trouble. The Lewlston boys are a lot of good fellows and we kindly Invite them to come again and have a friendly time with our citizens. Last night at a meeting of the taxpayers tax-payers of Wellsvlllo, a vote was taken and it was almost unanimously decided that the city council appropriate $1500 to pay for the right of way for the railroad between Wcllsvllle and Men-don. On Friday morning Miss Luella Ames, of our city, accompanied her friend, Maud Mathews, to Salt Lake, where sho will stay ono week, then return re-turn to Ogden and visit her sister, Mrs. W. II. Israclscn.and her brother, Archie Ames, who Is employed with tho John Scowcroft Sons company. , |
