A dispatch from Lord Kitchener, from Pretoria, aonounces that the Boers ambushed three companies of mounted infantry, with three guns, commanded by Major Gough, in the vicinity of Sheeper'sNek. After severe fighting the British were overpowered and lost their guns, the sights and breech blocks of which were first destroyed. de-stroyed. Two officers and fourteen men were killed and five officers and twenty-five men. were wounded. Five officers and 150 men were made prisoners. |
