Show START THE GRADE- At the meeting of the Logan 1 Councilman. Bensoii strongly fa-'. fa-'. vored the grading of the street ' north of the temple. The council, coun-cil, however, decided to do nothing noth-ing for the present, and the matter mat-ter was tabled, in defiance of the strong petition presented asking that the work be done. It is estimated that the total -expense would be $600, which is a considerable sum for the city to expend in its present close con-' dition, but as Councilman Benson Ben-son states, the work could be begun, be-gun, and prosecuted with such haste as the finances would allow, It might be two or three years before the grade was completed, but the sooner it is begun the sooner the end of the work will come. In the meantime ifagra'el bed were open there, thousands of loads of gravel would be hauled haul-ed away free of charge by pro-perty pro-perty owners, and thus a great deal of the work would be done without expense to the city. The . street in the neighborhood of the hill is practically useless the way it is at present, as it is impossible for teams or pedestrians to go up or down its precipitous sides. A gravely bad could be opened for a - small amount, and the work thus - begun would continue to a successful suc-cessful opening of the street in process of time at slight current expense. The thoroughfare is in the track of considerable traffic, and when properly graded, would . be an orna nent to the city and a serviceable road for travelers. j |
