Show PARTISAN APPOINTMENTS. There is a disposition in certain cer-tain qurters to blame the Wells-ville Wells-ville Republican committee for demanding what the members cmsideris justly due their organization organi-zation from the county commis s'oners.. Why this should be the case, it is difficult, to understand. From the day political parties were organized to the present time, it has justly been the expectation ex-pectation of their members that favors would be bestowed upon the party workers.. Otherwise, whv should they strive for party victory? This is a lesson that must be learned, often bitterly, 1 by partisan officials. , It is one j that has seemingly never been j thoroughly learned by many'of j the Republicans of this county, and until it is better understood, discord will perforce result. We learn that one of the Republican county commissioners expresses 'himself to the effect that he did not desire nomination and election; elect-ion; that he does not recognize political lines particularly, and that therefore he will do what he thinks is best regardless of results. It therefore means that if his whim leads him to believe that Democrats are better material, mater-ial, he will vote tor them for county officers, and thus have Democratic supervisors.and other , officials all through the county. 1 This condition would be highly! gratifying to Democrats and they cannot but rejoice at the contemplation of a gentleman who must thus seem to them to be extremely liberal and just in his position. But will it ( seem entirely right to the Republicans who worked for his election? The Nation has no "axe to grind" in this matter. We simply ; vojceji few sentiments indefeose-' of the VVellsvfile politicians, as we believe they are entirely justified in the position tney have assumed. The Nation for many years did all in its power to aid the Republican cause ,in , this region, only to see its partisan par-tisan associates bestow most of their favors on their Democratic opponents. Such treatment becomes be-comes quite tiresome when closely close-ly followed, as the Wellsville committee will yet prove to the : 1 independent county commission-I commission-I ers. In the meantime we cannot understand the consistency of i those who unmercifully beat the . Logan city council for appoint-' ing a Democrat, and then blame j the Wellsville Republicans for resenting a similar action inj their town. " I |
