Show LETTER Wellsville Republicans Re-publicans to County court elsville Republ can. Had this precinct voted as it had cop - , sistently done previously, neither of you would have been elected. In the second week of January, we met, and having the fullest confidence in your political probity, pro-bity, unanimously recommended for your consideration the name of one of our stauncbest Republicans, Repub-licans, a gentleman fully competent compe-tent to discharge the duties of the office of road supervisor, and in addition a heavy tax-payer. j In view of the expected state appropriation for our roads, we looked upon this appointment as of more importance than is usual. You were notified of our desires in the matter, oar chair- Open letter to Messrs. Brig. 1 Heaancks and O. L. Anderson, Republican Commissioners of Cache County. Gentlemen: On Feb. 4th. . the Republican executive committee of Wellsville precinct addressed to you the following letter: Wellsville, Feb. 4th-03. Gent'emen: We, the executive execu-tive comm'.tteeof the Republican party of Wellsville desire, in a respectful but most emphatic and vigorous manner, to protest against the action of the Board of Commissioners yesterday, in appointing a prominent Democrat Demo-crat to the office of road supervisor super-visor of Wellsville precinct. Your action is looked upon by us as most unwarranted, unpre- man handing you a written com- j munication to that effect. Your ' answer to our request was to turn the matter over to your Demo-icratic Demo-icratic colleague. We have no; t fault to find with Mr. Darley. As a dexterous manipulator of aj j helpless majority, he is without, j a peer. As a dexterous mathe-l mathe-l matician who can successfully j demonstrate that one side of a I triangle is greater than the sum of the other two sides, he has j solved a problem that has baffled j the sages for the ages. But, ! gentlemen, it is shocking to the sensibilities of those who have to put up with the rank injustice of it. It was not for this that you wore elected, i The Salt Lake Tribune in its issue of March 26, in discussing just such actions as you have j been guilty of, remarks: "When I persons announce themselves as -edented, unethical and unjust to ! the local Republicans. We are at a loss to explain your action, un- j less on the assumption that it is , your desire to disrupt the party j in this district. ' We understand that you plead- as your justification a desire to be courteous to your Democratic , colleague, Mr. fVm. H. Darley. But vou surely cannot overlook j tire gi oss discourtesy displayed j to the hundreds of Republicans j who voted for you here at the i last election. j We, therefore, ask you to be good enough to rescind your appointment ap-pointment of Mr. Thos. Murray, and appoint a competent Repub- partj candidates for office, go j before a partisan convention andj secure nomination to office, and are elected at the polls as m2m-, m2m-, bers of the party they represent 'themselves as adhering to, they I are expected co stand by the organization of that party. If as 'soon as. elected they announce themselves as not being parti-Isans, parti-Isans, under pretext of believing in 'representing all the people and not merely the members of a party organization,' they are guilty of obtaining office under j false pretenses, and should not again be trusted with party I honors or responsibilities." The La.me orean of State Republican- lican instead. Respectfully submitted. Notwithstanding the fact that separate copies of the above let-ter let-ter were addressed to each of you, each copy being signed by every member ot the committee, l and mailed to you by special delivery, you- have failed in even the common courtesy of acknow- wicrinp- receipt of our comuni- ism voices the sentiments of evey true and loyal Republican in the State when it adds-"The Republican party will exact party loyalty from its candidates or know the reason why it doesn't get it." j We wish to impress upon you that we of the rank and file have j political party rights: that you have infringed on these rights, and that we resent both the in-. fringement and the manner of it. ; We demand that in thefature. local appointments of a party . nature we be consulted, and al- J ways providing we recommend, ! as we did in the instance under : dispute, persons of the highest! personal character, fully competent compe-tent to fill the positions, and not least, staunch and loyal Republicans, Repub-licans, that you accept our recommendation. rec-ommendation.
