A stnte Joint commltteo for the European Relief council has been organized with headquarters In tho Hotel Utah, Salt Lako City, to assist tho national council In raising $3.1,-000,000 $3.1,-000,000 to aid these children. Mrs. Annie Wells Cannon hns been mndo state chairman, with il joint committee commit-tee of Mrs. A. J. Ooilium, Daniel Alex-under, Alex-under, It. C. Treauor of Bait Lnko and M. J. O'Connor of Ogden. WkW. Armstrong, prominent banker of Suit Lake, has been mnde. treusurcr, and the National Copper Imnk Is being used as depository. Mrs. II. W. Pickering of Salt Luke is secretary. Letters have been sent to every community In tho ututo unking ttiut throe prominent men or women be given clmrge of tlia campaign In their towns uud every veiit to bo rulsed In tho stnte Is to go direct to the starving children. It Is the aim of tnc national organization organ-ization to ralso thrtmghout the entire country tho $33,000,000 to feed 3,600,-000 3,600,-000 children until harvest time. This will giro but $10 for each child and will mean but one menl n day for each little underfed urchin; nnd that meal will bo but of cocoa, milk, bentiK, lard nnd bread. If Utahns are generous enough this bread may be white Instead In-stead of the coarse dark bread made pnrtly of sawdust. Tho weight of each child Is being carefully watched and as n llttlo one gets to a certain prescribed number of pounds, he steps out of the relief food Hue nnd Is replaced re-placed by u pitiful human atom In worse condition thnn himself. Theso children do not play, do not laugh, but aro Just merely lighting to exist. This council Is composed of all relief organizations which nro working against wholesnlo child tragedy In the former war zones of control nnd eastern Europe. The local state commltteo does not Intend to "pester" Utuh citizens for contributions, contribu-tions, ns they believe tho cause speaks for Itself. All contributions are therefore there-fore to bo voluntury, raised rather through entertainments than canvass. The biggest children's party In tho history of the world Is to be singed on January 20, when picture show houses will show a specially prepared film ami all receipts for admission ad-mission will go to tho Europenn Relief council. On January 0 every motion picture theatre will be open for speakers speak-ers nnd tho collection of funds. Tho statu campaign will close January Janu-ary 31. The state committee have no doubts but that Utah will ralso a generous gen-erous sum by that date. |
