Harry Orehnrd was sentenced to bo hnnged by Judge Fremont Wood nt Caldwell, March 18, 1003. Governor Gooding commuted his scntenco to llfo Imprisonment. Orchard was arrested January 1, 1000, at Caldwell. Ho later confessed to having set the bomb nt the gate of tho Steunenberg homo which killed tho former governor. Ills confession led to the nrrest and later tho Indictment Indict-ment of Charles II. Moyer, president of the Western Federation of Miners; William D. Hnywood, secretary-treasurer of the same order, and George I'ettlbone, former member of tho executive ex-ecutive board. Haywood and I'ettlbone I'ettl-bone were tried and acquitted and tho case against Moyer was dismissed. At tho trial of Haywood, Orchard confessed to u long series of crimes, chiefly liiiiib outrages.
