They let up talking long enough to put up a ticket before the early hours of -Sunday morning. There was a good attendance drawn out, perhaps by the noisy rattle of the drum corps. Mosiah Evans was selected as chairman and John Roberts. Jr. secretary, secre-tary, Matthias Peterson sergeant-at-arms and Charles Karrcn, John Winn and John E. Robs tollers. John L, Gibb was the first man to begin the excitement by introducing the following resolutions: In view of the fact that the evils of intemperance are gettingmore apparent every year in out city, notwithstanding a large amount of money has been expended ex-pended in taking the Keely Cure to stop the evil those men nearly always return to their old habit, liko a eow to her waliowings in the mire, to the many allurements that are thrown out by our system of open saloons our young boys are drawn into these places which will eventually lead to their utter ruin ; to eay nothing of the children who will be crying for bread. After his introductory speech S. W. Rosjs introduced tho following substitute substi-tute : Wo the Republican party in convention conven-tion assembled hereby adopt the following: follow-ing: "We mark with pride the advancement advance-ment of our city during the past four years of republican administration, in the "purchase of road machines and the erection of water tanks, the miles of graded streets in our city and the sprinkling of the same. "We Bymphatiso with all wise and legitimate efforts to lessen and prevent the evils of intemperance. Yet we think that under present conditions this object would come nearer attainment by pursuing a policy of high license and Btrict regulations. "We pledge the nominees of tho Republican party to an adoption and continuation of the above policies and an economical expenditure of the Jcity's revenues." This precipitated a spirited discussion lasting for over an hour. Finally when all got through spouting the 'ote was called resulting in tho substitute carrying carry-ing by a vote of 101 to 10. Soon after 10 o'clock the chairman announced thnt nominations for mayor wore in order. Wm. Bone, Jr. and Elisha II. Davis, Jr. were named but Wm. Bone was an easy winner. Miss Lanore Thomas was nominated for recorder without any opposition. op-position. There wore more who wore anxious to handle the city's funds and the names of James Harwood, Nowal A. Brown and James E. Ross were presented for treasurer. Mr. Ros?) got the majority on the second ballot. For marshul, George Evane, Ncwburn Butt and llyrum Tjmothy wcrfc named, After two ballots Mr. Timothy wbb declared tho choicoof the convention. Tho name of George Evans came up for justice but he declined to serve and L. B, Willis was nominated without any opposition 'though he talked against tho substitute and stated ho was going to move out of town. Then came the scramble for councilmanic honors, lleber Austin was nominated without any opposition but Richard Brrdsbaw. James Harwood, Samuel Taylor, M. It. Bushman, Ruben Davis and Charles Woodhouso were named for the second place. Mr. Brad-shaw Brad-shaw declined to Eervo and after a number of ballots Samuel Taylor was nominated. For tho third place the following array of representative men were named: John Roberts, Jr. Who declined, James Harwood declined, Elisha H. D.ivis, Jr , Thxddeus Powell Who would not serve, Charles Wood-houpe, Wood-houpe, Ruben Davis, Richard Normnn who is going to Klondike in tho spring and could not serve. Out of the remaining remain-ing candidate Charles WoodhouBo was chose . . S. I. Goodwin was norainnted in a hurry forthfliourth place, but there was a contest for the fifth man. Georgt, Evans was named but declined and so did John L. Gibb, but E. II. Davis, Jr. Ruben Davip and George Beck fought it to a finish,,Mr. BecK getting the most votes.
