Show IN OUR POCKETS. Wo May Soon Jlo Ablo to Cnrry, Gallons of CofToc. I In the forward march of science, no- I ture'smethodsorcbelngclosely imitated in tho laboratories of the synthcll jl chemist who has already been nble to make an artificial quinine which eon- . tains most of the therapeutical properties proper-ties of the real article. Two Cieimon chemists working in llerlin have .nu.t produced an artificially prepared caffeine, caf-feine, tho alkaloid to which both tea mil coffee owe their refreshing stimulating stimu-lating and analgesic properties. As may be readily .imagined, says the Cincinnati Enquirer, the process, by which this has been done is exceedingly elaborate nnd costly, but the discoi er-crs er-crs are not without hope that they v-ill be able to simplify and cheapen it so as to bring It within the region of practical economics, as lias been done with many of tho coal-tnr preparations wii'ch, though now exceedingly cheap, were very expensive when first produced. Should the anticipations of these two gentlemen lie realized a cup of ten or coffee will resolve itself into n question of minute pellets; one of the alkaloid, one of saccharine, and one of a highly concentrated milk, which will only need to be put into a cup of boil-ng wnter to bo an efficient substitute for the real article.
