Show Old Mmlcan Mine. Whenever sv cave is newly discovered in New Mexico or Arizona the finder's first hope is that he haa unearthed an old Spanish or Mexican mine, but this seldom or never has proved to bo the case. Generally these holes in the mountains arc natural caves in limestone lime-stone or sandstone formations, but sometimes they lie between walls of hard rock, which perhaps contain mineral deposits, indicating that tho primitive civilized Indians may havo dug their way in following n soft streak in search of talc to use in pottery pot-tery making, with no thought for precious metals. Stalactites, snowy white, hang from their roofs, and when; mineral water has percolated these crystallizations take on gorgeous metallic me-tallic h.ues. Human bones are sometimes some-times found in these oaves and other evidences of human work or former occupancy. 'J'ho t'olTee cave and Kob-inson's Kob-inson's cave, in the Itlack range, in southern New ?,Ic.ko, have been explored ex-plored for several hundred feet, and other large caves in that region remain to be explored. |
