Final result of the Russian census of 1S97 are still appearing appear-ing at Intervals, Among the latest figures fig-ures published by the statistical department depart-ment are tho following: "Tho totnl population of the Russian empire (excluding (ex-cluding Fluland) on May 10, 1897, was 12G.5SG.525. Of these 57,128,601 were members of the orthodox church. Old believers and other sections numbered 2.204,600; Mohammedans, 13,906,972; Woman Catholics, 11,407,991; Jews, 6 216,805; Protestants (Lutherans), 3,672,653, A division of tho population on tho basis of classes gives tho following follow-ing results: Hereditary nobles, 1,220,-169; 1,220,-169; nobles for life, or by virtue of office, of-fice, 630,119; priests ot all Christian denominations, de-nominations, 688,947; honorable citizens, citi-zens, 342,927; merchants, 281,179; burgesses, 13,386,392; pensants, 96,896,-648; 96,896,-648; Cossacks2,928,842; foreigners, 8,237,-965. 8,237,-965.
