Show A WORD TO UPPER CLASSMEN Can you imagine yourself in Oxford University over a thousand miles from rom home Can you see yourself standing in one of its immense buildings among mong hundreds of strange people people you would love to meet but dare not ot speak to If you can and can feel your heart beat faster as a crowd of students pass you by you have an idea of how some of our new students feel at t the University of Utah Hundreds of town out town students are here at college absolute strangers Some have made friends but the big majority are still unacquainted Former students it is up to us to make our new friends welcome We cannot wait until class acquaintances are established it may then be too late For a afew afew few ew students already have felt so may we say that they have left eft school and returned home Miss Van Cott the dean of women regrets that hat some new girls are sometimes found sitting in the rest rooms literally weeping when just a good morning or a smile from a former student girl girl student would make their being at the University a joy In n some cases cases it is now I quite the reverse The reception in honor of new students given Friday was instituted with but one end in in view in-view view to afford former students an opportunity to extend a hand to those unacquainted Yet few upper classmen were present present pres pres- ent at all and some of those who were thought too much of their old acquaintances acquaint acquaint- ances to form any new This does not apply to all but does to a good majority majority ma- ma of the students of the University We are far too aristocratic Our cliques and our are detrimental to the spirit of our college We Weare Weare Weare are students of the University not members of a clan Let us work to this end II I I |
